Should I Tell My Host She's Making a Cooking Mistake? Good Questions

I'm hosting a dinner party next week.

I think the type of party you have depends on the type of company. If your guests are all people who appreciate good food, liquor, and conversation, then a dinner party is awesome. But if you don't cook, or your friends don't care about food, then a more casual affair is probably best.

I personally don't give a damn about where you hang the mirror - I want to know about the walls! Is that wallpaper or paint? The color & texture are gorgeous!

I'm getting really bored of all these kitchen makeovers where they just paint the cabinets white. Sure, it looks good now, but wait until those pristine white cabinets are smeared with dirt & grime.

I tried this with a bunch of small 2x3 Persian-print rugs. Needless to say it didn't work out, they kept getting kicked out of position. I love the look though, but as others have remarked it's definitely cost-prohibitive. If you used floppy worn antique rugs instead of brand new ones it would probably reduce tripping issues.

If you care about keeping your food delicious, don't put food items in open storage. Light, heat, and moisture are the sworn enemies of organic compounds (i.e. your food). The second food items hit the light, their natural oils begin to break down. So if you enjoy your food not tasting like sawdust, keep it in a cool, dark, dry place.

That doesn't mean you can't keep your dishes in open storage, however :)

I really wouldn't call that "100% Suburban." The day you feature someone who successfully transforms one of those California cookie-cutter suburban homes, then I'll be impressed. But then, no one with any creativity whatsoever would ever buy one of those...

Never put food items in glass containers - especially on a counter top. Three things cause organic molecules to break down: light, heat, and moisture. If you care about your food being as fresh and delicious as possible, store it in an opaque container in a cool, dry place! I know it's cool to show off your pretty pastas and coffees, but you have to make a choice between form or function! This goes for wine too! Pretty wine racks may seem cool, but your wine dies a little every day it sits out in the light on your counter top.

I could never see that taking off in a home setting - however it may find a niche market among the backpacking crowd. A lightweight & portable seating solution when you're in the middle of nowhere.
