We have a row of hooks next to our closet in our bedroom for this purpose. It works well if you put a little work into it - train yourself to use it in those times when you're just too tired or too much in a hurry to hang things up properly, but take the time to clear it off, too.

I was hoping it would keep the clothes off of the desk chair, but that still seems to be hubb's favorite place to put his worn clothing. Maybe with a little more training... or manlier hooks... (c:

@crayfish... amen.

I spray painted my first car. It was orange and red with big stars on it. If I had read this article it may not have resembled a cheeto when I was done, but hey, it sure did make high school interesting.

I have some retro wire paper organizer baskets I'm going to spray paint and use in my son's nursery... thanks for the article. As much experience as I've had spray painting (a whole car will really wear your thumbs out!) I am still no good at it. Will try to be more careful... and patient.

Our bed is up in the corner currently. I hesitated to do it for a long time even though the room was small, but once we moved it there, it opened up a lot of space and I think it has been worth it. However, we might have to move it back or trade places when our baby comes in June - I don't want to have to crawl over hubbs to get to him every few hours!

I used to be so good about this and the past few months it has gone awry. I blame it on my pregnancy and not having the energy that I used to, but in truth, the source of the problem lies in the every day habits. Clothes tossed on the hope chest instead of hung up right away, bills put on the dining table (which is never used for eating anyway), shoes taken off and abandoned wherever they land.

With a 700 sqft 1 bedroom space and baby's imminent arrival in June, I had better straighten up and make some space!!

I only use little white dish rags and bleach them with my whites, changing them out about once a week. We have a dishwasher so the rag doesn't wash dishes every day.

I'm in the "sponges are disgusting" crowd. And microwaving them doesn't do a thing for me, just makes me think of cooked dead bacteria.

I agree that the yellow is minimal, but in this case, less is more. I love the grey walls and black curtains, they add super drama and I'm definitely going to borrow that concept.

And I don't mind the floor. I don't like things too matchy-matchy. I think it's a good combo of different styles. Gets my vote!

I love it! Especially the kitchen and the bedroom. The stained concrete in those rooms is amazing, too. Thank you for sharing!

Grellow. Really?

I must be some redneck who doesn't give a hoot about BPA or toxins from plastic, but I use the containers for both hot and cold food.

I also must live in a place that is full of people like me because there is also no recycling services whatsoever. So I get the most use out of them I can before filling that landfill.

Love these kinds of posts. The paint idea is great, I'm totally using that. We actually don't eat out much, but reuse a lot of sour cream, yogurt, feta cheese, etc. containers to pack leftovers for next-day lunches. Also, salsa and pickle jars for storing homemade sauces. The jars work great for disposing of hot grease or oil, too (if you're too lazy to find a place to dump it in the yard, like me!).

Oh, and smaller jars a great for storing dried herbs from your garden.

Just wanna say I think you've done a beautiful job so far! I love it.

I'm with the collage idea. Lots of eclectic stuff. A tidy bookshelf would be sweet, too. I think the key to distracting from your tv is to offer an array of interesting pictures/artwork/books, etc. Let it be a wall that expresses you and those in your household.

That is gross, but I kind of love it when I see something that dirty because if I get a chance to clean it, it is SO satisfying to see it all shiny.

Man, I think I actually like to clean grime. Not to be mistaken for picking up clutter (lord knows I have plenty of that!) but transforming grime into shine has that same satisfaction as rearranging the furniture or painting a wall! Anybody else feel that?

extremely creative and interesting. Not sure I prefer it over stained concrete, but I think I would LOVE a combo: this kind of detail and visual interest over stained concrete. I think it would be subtle, but awesome.

Looks like there is some sort of light fixture for the foyer. It might be really easy to swap that out for a more visually interesting (and bigger) light fixture, like a chandelier.

I agree that trying to fit artwork above the windows might look a little too forced.
