When I worked for a woman that had her letterpress studio in a detached garage, she said that if a workspace wasn't in some sort of disarray, it meant the printer wasn't really working. We all have these catch all areas because we LIVE in our homes, they are our living "workspaces". So, a lot of times if company is coming, I grab everything from that chair I dump my stuff on and put the stuff away or in a pinch, throw it in a drawer. HA! Screw it. Long story short, I have been without a car in LA for over a year now due to...stuff, one of them being a DUI. I JUST got my restricted license and today, I am going to IKEA. I am excited. Also, I did not mind not having a car at all. I have discovered so many places, lost some weight, have funny bus stories. I could do without a car here but I wish I could have access to a Zip Car but they do not allow people with a DUI on their records to be a member. Hopefully the company will be around in 2019 when the violation is off my record. Car For a Day: What Would You Do? |

I recently re-read "Little House in the BIg Woods" for a paper I was writing for a Children's Literature class and in this first book in the "Little House" series, I remember Laura and Mary received I think, a stick of candy each and Laura got a "real" doll finally because she had been playing with a corn cob wrapped in a towel and was pretending it was her baby. Now maybe that is TOO spare nowadays but I recently went to a kids birthday party and he was just tearing through the stacks of presents and seemed unsatisfied with practically every one. At the end, there was a mountain of paper and ribbon and he looked like "That's it?" It was kind of unsettling to be honest. I like the idea of making donations a part of the tradition as others had said and slowing things down. It just seems that at an early age kids are expecting too much and then- GETTING too much. Garage but at least there is a carport. Off-street parking of any kind is awesome in LA. Also, washer and dryer. That's something that you put up with as a renter maybe but as a homeowner, I really did not want to continue going to the laundromat but looks like this year I'll finally get around to getting the w/d hookups put in and purchase a stackable unit. Super A is where it is at! They have crazy deals on produce (4 for 99 cent avocados for instance) and have a lot of typically "Hispanic" foods that are not relegated to one aisle but are all over and cheap. Bad thing about it tho is people cashing their checks and turning in their WIC stuff... I wish they had a different cashier for the customers with those needs.
