I grew up with Taiwanese & some Mandarin spoken in the house, and went to school not knowing much English, went into ESL for a few months and by the end of the semester was fluent in English.

My son is getting Mandarin Instruction at home with some Taiwanese, and at camp and this fall school, he will be getting English during school time and Mandarin at home. He'll be 3 this December.

My friends who speak Korean also have them speaking Korean up until school-age, and they would attend a few days to help them, but they quickly picked up English by the end of the school year too!
