Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | 5 Tips For Preparing Your Home For A New Puppy

1. yes Nature's Miracle
2. Yes puppy training (I loved Denise at Empire of The Dog f you live in NYC)
3. make sure your puppy always has something delicious enough on hand that it will prefer it to your favorite pair of shoes.
4. I actually got my hyper pug 100% accident free way before the one year mark, so don't think daily accidents are unavoidable.
5. be prepared to physically exhaust your puppy every single day. we took ours to the park, or to doggy daycare every single day, and this alone corrected nearly all "puppy misbehavior"
6. Whatever treats you stumble upon - remember you'll have to change them up regularly for them to have the same magical effect. Otherwise, puppy gets bored and moves on to your stuff.
7. Socializing them as soon as they have all their shots also really helps. It made our little guy really happy and friendly.
8. consider feeding your puppy it's meals in a king toy. This worked great for us - the puppy had to work on the toy to get the pieces of kibble to come out. Again, burning puppy energy is key!

Plus, all the anthropologie stores did this a year or so ago - so even though i love me some old mason jars it feels too copycat.

i think the idea of framing vintage bathing suits is brilliant.
It instantly conveys the vibe she was going for.

I like it.
It would be a great solution for my currently hideous bathroom walls that probably won't be renovated for another year IF it weren't for the price.

i love the after, It's really fresh unlike the sort of standard thrift store green.
This is such a great tutorial - but I have to admit, still pretty intimidating.
i will definitely refer back to it.

I hate to say it, but these are hideous.

I have two with piped seat cushions on them (but not on the back like the picture) and they were custom made. Oh, and I swear they don't ruin the ghost chair. The whole idea of the ghost chair is that it's an irreverent take on a classic chair design. Take a deep breath people.

Please tell us how you created the wall treatment in the dining room. Is it plaster or just a paint situation?
Love it!
Hallie.

They sell them in Manhattan at Enchanted which is on Lex and 81st. They sell them online at magic cabin. It's a Waldorf toy. Enchanted also has those baby grands, and about million other things I saw in the photos.

the idea of checking after a rainy day is a good one. But honestly, a good housing inspector would (should) catch almost all of this stuff. Mine could tell where water had been getting in even though it was dry when we did the inspection. i love my old house - but as everyone has said, it isn't always smooth sailing. On the upside, when I get into a panic about how I have to fix everything right now or else the house is going to crumble, it helps to remember that it's been standing for well over a hundred years, and that one more season without (insert major repair here) is probably not going to do it in.

I agree with AT. I took note of it both times, and have concluded that it's ridiculous. It's so "done" looking that I think it's tacky. There are lots of people out there who want to live in a space that looks like a set. I'm just not one of them.

for me (in NY) this would be great. I's got such a little footprint and can get so many shoes at once up off the floor. To the guys who mentioned keeping their shoes on the floor of the closet - this storage idea is for those of us whose shoes would never even begin to fit into the confines of closet floor space. I already have those lame shoes pocket thingies on the back of three doors and at least 15 boxes under the bed. I'm onto this idea because you can see them all. So they'll get worn more (theoretically).

um pooper, not pooer. Although I guess the sentiment is the same.

Such a beautiful work of art - but it's rare to see a place where it wouldn't be safe for a child to even COME OVER (cactus, drownings and concussions oh my). I know bringing this up makes me seem like such a party pooer but I couldnt help imagining it. This falls squarely into museum living. It is something that seems to be more common in California where everyone likes things really really "done"
But man - those sinks really got me. What a fabulous idea.

the mix of color is so nice! It's rare to see this much color together and have the effect still be relaxing. Great job.

Such a beautiful apartment. I particularly loved that you didn't feel the need to throw status appliances in the kitchen. The kitchen looks great with what's there! I also have to say that using one or two crucifixes would be missing the whole point. It's art. It's not supposed to be mild.

I have actually done the spraypaint-the-whole-thing move. It does look realy cool. But honestly it also looks like what it really is (when you see it in person and closeup) which is a spraypainted chandelier.
I vote that you leave it alone. This chandelier style would not work painted imo. What might work is to paint it with a glaze that you can tint slightly (available at the paint store). I only suggest this if you dislike the gold color of the metal and want to make it look more antique and less shiny.
