The thermapen is expensive but worth every penny. It was a well-appreciated gift, and my husband uses it at least once a week. Expensive, yes, but the temp read is almost instantaneous and perfectly accurate. A great buy!

I could not get the grid-it to work for me. It's pretty heavy, and more importantly stuff used to fall out of it and end up at the bottom of my bag. I've replaced it with a mesh bag: lightweight, I can see everything easily, nothing falls out, and it takes much less time to just drop items back in the bag, instead of carefully placing them in the grid-it.

The Compass looks amazing, but I love my PadPivot. Most versatile stand I've seen, and only $25 on Kickstarter! Only problem: you can only use it effectively if the iPad doesn't have a case or has a smooth case. Leather, silicone, etc. won't work.

The Perfect Viewing Angle For the iPad?

I was a .Mac user from 2002. Defended .Mac and then MobileMe to all the haters. But I'm honestly PISSED OFF about the switchover to iCloud. I feel like all us true believers have been taken for granted. The official news regarding iDisk and iWeb hosting was clearly an afterthought. Overall, the new iCloud looks like a complicated system that works differently for each file type (music, pictures, etc.) I much prefer a single web backup option.
I'll keep my .mac email, but I'm done paying for apple services. Instead, I built a new website in Wordpress and uploaded all my files to SugarSync (wayyyy cheaper, too! And great interface on iPad.) I've also upped my google use (storage on google is CHEAP and is distributed to all google suite apps. Nice.)
There's plenty of time before the services officially die, but I didn't want to leave the switchover to the last minute. My advice to all those making the transition: try all the alternatives. You'll get some spam, but most of them have free trials (or in some cases free use: wordpress is free, dropbox and all other storage options have 2-5 GB free, etc.)
I'm still a Mac fangirl, but for web services at least, I'm done trusting Apple.

I have both. The infrared is actually a little limited: it's no good for roasts and such. The thermapen, on the other hand, is AMAZING. I hesitated about the price, but it was definitely worth it.

People are horrified by baby leashes, binky use, not breastfeeding (or breastfeeding too late), and just about everything else. I don't judge, because lots of stuff I do horrifies others.
Case in point: my 19-month-old loves her iPod touch. She has lots of books, songs, alphabet, etc. apps on it, and she plays with it every day. Considering the 2 hour commute we both have to deal with, it's a life saver.
Is it doing irreparable damage? I don't think so. Judge me harshly if you want.
And thanks, rebar, for the "bubcap" link.

My husband saw the OXO sippy cup at the store and figured we like everything else they make. Sure enough, our daughter LOVES it. It's the first non-silicone sippy she's willing to use. Plus: easy cleaning and no spills! (and to answer primitiveye: yes)

If you're going to keep a car, leaving a stroller in the trunk is the way to go. I live in a third floor walkup. The g-luxe I can carry up, but the vista is way too heavy with baby and bags. So it stays in the trunk, and even if it means walking halfway down the block (or more) it's still less effort than carrying it up, and it stays safe and dry when not in use.

Can't put holes in the walls? Get some of those COMMAND hooks (you can have a friend mail you some from the US if they aren't available in the Netherlands). They come off clean, and they can carry some serious weight.
One idea from that: hang a bunch of them on a wall, and hang bags/hats/clothes etc. It can look good, as well as being functional.

We just got back from a trip with my 11-month-old. Four flights, the longest being 9 hours. Honestly, the flights aren't super fun. It was better before she started to crawl around. Best advice:
- Get the baby her own seat and bring the carseat aboard. Yes, it's expensive, but for flights over two hours, it's a lifesaver.
- More diapers, food, clothes, wipes, ziplocs etc. than you think you could need, and food and a change of shirt for you.
- You might want to get the already liquid formula for the trip. We didn't use this ourselves, but sounds like a good idea. I'm pretty sure they have to let that through security, and although it's more expensive, it's also easier to use.
- Bring a baby carrier on the plane (the stroller is great for airports, so I'd bring that as well. A cheap stroller bag will make sure it doesn't get mangled at gate-check).
- Don't be afraid to use everything in your arsenal. Usually, we only let our daughter have one or two teething cookies a day. On the plane, we gave her as many as she wanted.
- We found that our daughter liked the in-flight movies. Moving pictures would keep her attention for a little while.
- Safety pins and swaddling blankets allow you to make a tent or privacy cover. Good for breastfeeding and/or limiting the light/activity the baby sees.
On the plus side, we've found that babies don't suffer from jetlag (and ours had no problem with takeoff/landing either)... Have fun!

The gulliver crib was one of the best purchases we made. I think it's pretty stylish, and for $100, it can't be beat!
Our daughter loves it, and her toys (mobile, kick piano, etc.) all set up on it quite easily.
Plus, it's also rated as a very safe crib.
