How did he install his own sink without tapping into the apartment building's waterline? (Or did he do just that.)

I don't expect Laura to divulge this information, but as someone who is moving to NYC for the first time very soon, and wants to have his own mini studio somewhere in Brooklyn, I wonder how much her rent is.

If it's $1000 or less (which I doubt it is), I want that apartment, darn it!

Part of this ticks me off.

Perhaps I'm a bit too on the obnoxiously-liberal-about-everything-and-screw-censorship side, but some of these "rules" are absurd. While I consider myself to be well versed in manners, I find most of what you all have posted in your comments to be atrocious. I'm a proponent of chewing with your mouth closed, ensuring your conversation is warm and friendly, passing items, and saying "please" and "thank you" to show consideration. Beyond that, though, a lot of this is absurd.

No one should care how a person cuts his or her steak or if a man removes his hat before sitting. It makes NO DIFFERENCE. These are rules based on ZERO concrete reasoning, except because it "looks" nice. Something about it all feels so counter-progressive. (Like how saying a man should open a door for a woman. In actuality, a person should open a door for any other person without regard to gender, because it's just a nice thing to do.)

Yes, there are manners. Then there are ridiculous and stifling social constructs that are followed without any sound merit or reasoning.

I work for a very popular clothing company that you can find in any nicer mall in the United States. While we typically use posters of good looking, young models, we occasionally get to use (and then take home after we're done with them!) great props or posters that could serve a glamorous second life at home.

For example, over my five years with this "patriotic bird" company, I have accumulated some awesome cloth bins (for storage), a vintage bench, a rustic fence (perfect for Halloween), and some great specialty lights.

Like anywhere else, they key to getting these goods are asking the right person at the right time. While there's no company policy against their distribution to the public, you just have to ask the day they're coming down. (We'd never "hold" it for you.)

Bottom line: Always ask when they're coming down, and then follow up.

Ultimately, I'm a firm believer in those flat, sponge-things that glide alone the edge. But like a reader already mentioned, you DO have to be quick about painting the rest of the wall or otherwise you get big beads of paint that drip from it.

Many of you have mentioned Replacements, Lmtd.

Get ready to be jealous...

I LIVE 5 MINUTES FROM THE REPLACEMENTS, LMTD. SHOWROOM! It's GIGANTIC, and I pass it every day when I go to work.

(And as for the "starting small." I've been considering buying one expensive curtain panel at a time until I can get all 4 that I need.)
