Personally, I would get rid of the stone. But if that's not an option I would paint the walls around it a color similar to the stone (grey, taupe...) to help it disappear. There's too much contrast now, especially with the red wall, that makes the stone jump out. And, yes, I agree, there's too much stuff on and around it. Bring Our Fireplace Up-to-Date?
