For me, sunlight is the dealbreaker. I've lived in apartments where I never saw sunlight, and it was incredibly depressing. Give me windows, windows, windows!

I would second the "please don't leave the air conditioning on" comment. It depends, of course, on your living situation, but I live in an apartment and always turn off the air conditioning when I'm not home.

You know, at first, the colors were throwing me off (and I also assumed that it was due to some camera filter). But, overall, even though it's not *quite* my style, I say kudos for doing a beautiful, curated job!

Actually, I'm curious too: I've had great luck on Craigslist in the past, but now find myself hesitant to buy anything, given bed bugs!

I tried the warm farro salad with the roasted vegetables and it was incredible!

This was absolutely incredible: I could barely keep myself from eating the entire bowl in one sitting! For New Yorkers: I found the farro at Garden of Eden on 23rd Street, and like others have noted, it was $7/bag.

How about basic cooking techniques? Such as: what does it mean "to poach a chicken" or "how to blanch a vegetable"? I know that I could probably google it, but I trust apartmenttherapy more -- and pictures would always help!

I do the exact opposite! During the winter, I throw on the brightest duvet cover that I can find, because I find that it helps combat the New York City grey skies... but in the summer, I put on a more subtle, calming duvet cover.

I would LOVE a pink comforter/duvet, but I simply can't find anything that's meant for grown-ups. Does anyone have suggestions?

I feel like maybe I'm reading the situation a little differently... but to me, getting served leftovers is a good sign? Growing up, if people stopped by unexpectedly, I could always tell what my parents thought of the guests by their reaction:

If it was an acquaintance, my parents would encourage them to stay for dinner (while running into the kitchen to quickly order Chinese food). But if it was someone they were close to, my parents would encourage them to stay for dinner, and would then heat up leftovers from lunch.

I guess the point is: with true friends, it's a judgment-free zone, and I would serve leftovers happily -- and I would receive leftovers happily.

... but where can you buy these beans in New York City? Or is it online only?

Yum. I made some chicken biryani, which was lovely... but now my fingers are reeking from the smell of garlic :(

Isn't Zarin Fabrics the place owned by the lady from "Real Housewives of New York City"? (I'm sad that I know that)
