If I have to step away from an uncontrolled heat source, I grab a spatula and do not let it go until I return to the kitchen.
"What are you doing with the spatula?"
"Oops"

For the kitchen sink problem, you can take one of those right-angle bamboo back-scratchers and remove one of the center tines.
Now you can hook the strainer out and immediately rinse it off.
Of course, you'll only get 75 percent efficiency when scratching your back.

The "harshness" of the CFL is because it pulses 120 times per second, whenever the AC voltage crosses zero volts. You can see the same "harshness" in LED Christmas lights. For LED lights it pulses 60 times per second while on AC, since there is no light output when the voltage is on the negative-half of the cycle.

If you can move a dimmed LED light quickly back and forth you will see pulses. It also works with LED flashlights when they are not on full brightness. This is actually "pulse-width modulation" used to dim the LED output. It is much quicker than 120 times per second, so it is not so annoying.

The putty is Heat Sink Compound which provides a thermal bridge between the CPU chip and the metal heatsink pressing against it.
It has a specified thermal gradient regardless of temperature of the chipset. It normally does not change viscosity with temperature. As long as there was sufficient when installed, with no voids or gaps, it would always work as intended.
Blowing dust off the cooling fins is a good idea.

With the front-load dryer that low, a foot-high plywood pedestal could be built to raise the units, or a low sitting-stool could be stashed nearby. Save your back, plus you can reach right into the drum.

I thought a Star Wars Sandwich Cutter would be something along the lines of a Light Saber.

I guess that would be featured over at Unpluggd.

Under my espresso machine I have a square of half-inch camping foam pad. It prevents sound transmission through the cabinets to the suite below. Plus it is quieter for me. I use the machine at 6 am.
In my wood-frame building the washing machines and dishwashers transmit down, and the dryers and bath fans transmit up.
I can barely hear the vacuum cleaner from above.

Cool! I'm going to get a clock movement from the Craft Store and look for a retro something. I'll probably make the hands and glue them to the hands that come with movement.

I made my own timer. I dismantled an old microwave and put the circuit board into a good-looking electronics case about 6"w x 2"h x 6" deep. I wired in some buttons on the top and added a line cord and a transformer inside.

The display is light-green digital. It is so beautiful and one-of-a-kind. It beeps when the time is up just like a microwave, plus it doubles as a beautiful shelf clock in the kitchen.

PS, I am an electronics technician. I made the clock while attending school.

Unlike many people in North America, it seems, I keep the toilet lid closed any time it's not being used.
Imagine if your toothbrush flew out of your hand and landed in the bowl. Yes, chuck it.

Now, what if your hairbrush flew into the toilet? Or anything else you handle while standing at the mirror?

Then there is the whole thing about various mists emanating from the toilet every time you flush.
PS, I keep a small squirt bottle beside the kitchen sink with dilute bleach and water.

PS, if anything conducts, it is graphite, which is carbon.
For years I have used a dielectric silicone grease (also called tune-up grease when used around sparkplugs.) A very thin wipe is all that is needed. The lip balm idea is perfect.

People please!
You don't glop it on, you use a tiny wipe, just like the post says.
Also wax is non-conductive: it is used in transformers, coils, and in radio transmitters. There is no fire hazard as only a thin film exists ... not enough for anything.

To remove a stuck bulb, first cut the power. If there is space, try to stick a piece of transparent tape to help join the glass to the base. Then use patience: turn the globe slightly back and forth to release the grabbing between the socket and the base.

If you are worried about the globe breaking in your hand you can wrap it with tape or use a damp cloth. Patience and a light touch. If the globe separates from the base then twist it right off and use pliers in the base.

I like the counter idea. I also use them on my electronics bench for soldering and circuit work.

PS, you say silicon instead of silicone. Here's a memory trick:
For siliCONE just think of Madonna's CONE bra.
For siliCON think of semiCONductors.

I think true wine lovers (vinophiles?) would stick with the traditional 5 to 6 ounces.
Others might choose the Amy Winehouse Method: if it spills when you pick up the glass, then take big gulps to stop the spillage. Having more than one glass going seems to help her.

Bare tortilla on the electric burner works best for me. Place a small metal cooling rack on the burner first...helps prevent flame-ups.
I keep one cooling rack just for that purpose. I also use it under a saucepan when I need a very low heat.
