Kudos for not letting the current trends dictate what must be in your bedroom. In my opinion there isn't a one size fits all to design. Your home should make you happy, whatever style that is for you. If you've got a playful style, why not show it? I love the shades - a fun play on the his and her sides of the bed!

To really save on framing - buy frames at garage sales/flea markets/etc. and a hand held mat cutter and pieces of mat board at an art store. Combined with a large straight edge you'll be able to cut your own mats for a fraction of the cost of custom mat cutting or framing.

Just finished painting my bathroom wall - checkerboard style with squares in multiple colors. Perfect lines with no bleeding. I've done several paint jobs requiring a clean paint line and have found the easiest and most effective to be the original idea suggested by kelleyk. My house's 1973 walls are anything but perfectly flat and yet I get straight lines every time! Good luck!
