... when you know how to convert single-sided floppies to double-sided ones ...

(and I suppose knowing how to boot a TRS-80 from an 8-inch makes you positively ancient?)

@jmorri26 - deliberately taking sand really shouldn't be encouraged, however, you might want to consider gathering what you bring in (from flipflops, beach toys, and so forth) and putting it in pretty little jars.

I love your comment about living in a luxury hotel - had my fair share, but nothing looked (or felt) as wonderful as your home.

I'm putting your pictures on my inspiration board (if you don't mind?), and hope that I'll be able to meet you in person someday.

@daniellek,

Nope - you are neither lame nor uncool. Then again, it takes one dragon to know one (and there are a few of us still around).

Amen, alexette and Caralyn.

Think of the carbon footprint of that lifestyle.
I'm a green building professional, and certainly not the most carbon-neutral person around. Living green is a choice and commitment that cannot be gained regardless the color of ink the money to pay for it all is printed with.

Reminds me of my road warrior days and all those hotel rooms that was "home" everywhere.

@sandsdesign - I like your idea, thanks! Current (rented) flat has one with the fridge compartment as large as an undercounter and a top-mount freezer about half again as large. Not complaining, but a side-by-side would have been ideal. I think I'll steal the concept when I get my permanent home.

@kedvadi - I've done the blanket between two top sheets thing myself. Since I'm in the tropics, it's fleece instead of wool.

@HongKonger,
Amen on the Pantone numbers - and just "listening" in on all the comments proves why color names seem to be more a creation of the marketing department.
So while everyone is having an energetic argument about exactly what color is THAT, the folks at Pantone are laughing all the way to the bank, since their (very expensive) books remain true to shade and tint only for 1 year.
Ditto leaving the problem with the printer - when I used to work for a company with a very exact color scheme to be implemented worldwide, I used to drive our vendor nuts when I insisted they follow the Pantone numbers we issued. (Guess that happens when they call a particular color after you, but that's another story)

@paulamaria -
Way to go, champorado :D My favorite memory is eating it on a rainy afternoon in my grandaunt's kitchen, surrounded by dogs, cats and maiden aunts (P.S. and we always had it with tuyo AND alpine milk!)

And if I can't get my champorado fix, then I go for laksa

@KimberlyRose - I totally agree.
I work for a construction design and engineering company, and we push for properly designed, built and maintained buildings, since our field experience has proven it actually saves everyone a heck of a lot of money and heartache.
Our field experience also shows that tenants don't mind paying a fair rent (and on time!) if building management maintains the facility properly

The IBM is Ogden (after Ogden Nash, and when our testing and commissioning manager got his IBM, we refered to it as Son of Ogden, Junior for short).
The Mac is Nikki (after Nikola Tesla).
The iPod is Clio (after an ROV a friend used to run).

Love all the opposing views on that chandelier. Personally, I think seeing it everyday will just remind me to laugh at the day's annoyances.

I sent that picture to a deep-sea explorer I know - let's see what a pro thinks, since that "hot mess" is what a shipwreck gets to be given time and fishing damage.

To rosebud and MegP - I have the same situation here.
So far I've done mixed rice, and am debating whether I want to do risotto or pilaf this weekend.
What I discovered is that I need to increase the liquid I use, when I add ingredients to the mixed rice.
I also keep the cooker on keep warm mode a few minutes longer, when I've put in too much liquid, whether I'm cooking regular mixed rice.
It's all in the rice (type you use)!

I'm with you wheedo. The spent coffee grounds go on top of my potted plants out on the balcony, and once in a while, the filter paper goes along, too. The plants seem to like it.

I go along with everyone who said it's all in the beans - together with freshly boiled, filtered water (I'm using a Brita system right now)

As for coffee first thing in the morning, if you're willing to give yourself an extra 5 minutes to come completely awake, this is what I do:
1. Prep 2-3 filters with ground coffee at night and stick them in an airtight jar, to be placed in the filter holder in the morning
2. Use a really fast electric teakettle (mine gets the water boiling in under a minute)

I go with anna82883 - my current palette is dark brown furniture (lucked out, furniture came with the apartment), all white linens, and blue accent pieces with occasional bits of yellow-beige and green thrown in.

Reminds me of the ocean, without being too cute or precious.

You might want to add more plants to your place.
