who are you mailing these to? Am I the only one that wonders how you follow up if things take a bad turn? Although I guess there could be some pretty tasteless ones to announce a miscarriage in the same vein as all of these.

you definitely don't NEED a professional stager. I touched up our relatively recent paint jobs, cleaned things out and made sure *closets* were also freshly painted and the whole place clean and neat and I spent about $40/week on fresh flowers until our place was sold. It went for close to ask in 2009. Less furniture is more too.

I agree that a few pops of yellow or orange might help cheer the place up a lot. you also seem to have a lot of stuff on the counter, any of that you don't use often that can be put away? that might help lighten the mood too. I would seriously consider under cabinet lights in some or all of your kitchen, I did it in my last apartment only when we were getting ready to sell and it was so cheap and easy and made SUCH a difference I couldn't believe I'd waited that long to do it. Lights I used just plugged right into the wall.

I'm with apartmentzombie on this one. Actually I think the less screen time the better especially for the under-six set. They love games and TV, and there is a time and place (airplanes, for one) but I think it's good for kids of all ages to "be bored" and have to figure out something fun to do... build a fort, say, or go outside.

in the same vein as the playsilks one of the best gifts my daughter ever got was a little bag of different colored/patterned fabric squares from a quilting shop. My daughter is 4 and has been playing with them for 2 years now and counting

Perfect companion to Meret Oppenheim's famous fur teacup at the MOMA in New York. I am going to say I love this and it's probably quite effective

I have two little kids and even with another parent in the house, and two floors so I can escape to a quiet area when needed, working from home is very challenging.

I knew this post was a fantasy when I saw the combo of red wine, blueberries and a candle... toddlers would promptly eat the berries, spill the wine and proceed to burn the house down or at least burn themselves on the hot wax...

it IS possible to do house work with kids around. I can do laundry, clean a bathroom, and cook with them in the house (awake even) but even getting those tasks done can be a challenge

real "work" for a real length work day just doesn't seem feasible to me and believe me I have tied (just yesterday in fact)

only reason to keep is

1. if you might sell books one day

2. the book without dust jacket looks terrible (some of my cookbooks have this problem)

my daughter started obsessively removing them from all her books at the age of two, and somehow this liberated me. Now I happily peel most books.
