Rainbow Connection: Adding Happy Bursts of Color to Small Spaces
4/5/11 7:00 PM

Hi Renta- checked back here cuz a friend asked me about my floor so I sent the link.
The floor is aging well. I never sealed it properly. I used a basic grout sealer but it didnt do much and the pennies started to get dark, quickly. I've gone in and hand polished them to try and recreate the original feel with all the shades of copper, but was never satisfied enough with the results to seal it that way... and then it would darken all over again.
Recently I got fed up and washed the whole thing down with copper polish and it started to sparkle again, but almost too much. I'm waiting for it to "settle down" and then plan to seal it with some varnish. At this point, it'll be what it'll be. Other than the color change issue- which is my fault for poorly sealing it, it's held up great- no issues, except it can be cold on bare feet.
Incidentally, I did paint part of the room a dark peacock blue but then got pregnant again (and again) and STILL have not finished it. The main difference between the pics above and now is that now theres a potty seat on the floor.

This may sound kind of Macabre, but my stepfather passed when I was 14 and I made a skirt out of his neckties. (It was 1993- the Blossom years...) It ended up being pretty important to me. This would be a fantastic thing to make to remember a special man who passed away...

I once went on a blind date with a perfectly lovely gentleman who smelled like he slept with his cats. That's pretty much all I remember from that one and only date. ;)

hahaha- everyones so grossed out. They're plastic. Sheesh.
That being said, I think it's ugly as is.
IMO- no heads. Save those for a wall mounted display.
The arms and legs as pulls I think are humorous but the design above doesnt have enough confidence to pull it off. Those drawers should each be painted different bold colors so it looks like a fun, *designed* piece rather than like someone slapped some old doll parts on a boring bathroom cabinet.
I hope they've also put some of these arms / legs on the wall as robe and towel hooks.

Its very cute, open and clean but the circle tiles cut awkwardly at the corners would drive me bananas.

Decoupage the whole thing with pictures of 1950s americana and then use it for storage of out of season clothes.
Be sure to remove the dead body before you put your sweaters in. :-D

Gelpro rocks. Wish they had a wider color assortment. There are only so many shades of tan/beige/brown a girl can take. I spent the extra $ to get the red croc embossed.... it was the only one with any not neutral color.

Thats a pretty planter. It would look nice with a plant in it. :)
Actually, this would be a good temporary idea for a BBQ. Where, in some way, you do want to draw attention to the trash can so people know to use it.

What about on a plate rail shelf close to the ceiling? I like the idea of hooks too, and love the idea if making them into candles.
You could also build a large shadow box to put them in to act as wall art... Or a coffee table.

I totally dig these, and I was going to say I LOVE the way they go with the wood frames- the colors look so rick- and I am NOT a wood person.
My only thought is also what trishdom wrote... did you think to bond the back with fusible canvas to maintain the durability of the fabric? I hope so... it will help these have a much longer life.

Looks like you could just get some white sticky velcro to run along the back edge of your desk. (female side of the velcro) The power strip on the floor could be attached The cords could be wound up and tied with the male velcro and stuck there, as well as the entire power strip that's now sitting on the floor.

Hiya-
I did the penny tiled bathroom that was featured about a year and a half ago. I Still have not completed the rest of the bathroom (pregnancies, babies, other unfinished projects, laziness.... ya know...) I think this looks great. Did you seal the coins? I didn't initially and they all got dark (some became teal) and I polished them.
Did you actually install heating under the floor, because they DO get cold...
And FYI- it is less than 5x the cost of the pennies.... they're larger, use less per square foot... just saying...

when I finally splurged and got myself a DSLR, I actually DID become a better photographer. I use my iphone to take "pics" of random stuff that I wanna upload to facebook or just remember at a later time. For "photos" I use my real camera.

I've seen them at dollar tree or family dollar but they are larger than the ones I used.
Nani- I got mine at Amazing Savings which is a ny/nj based chain store. There likely is at least one in Brooklyn, likely in Jewish neighborhood, and at the one near my home in nj there are always tons of these mirrors in stock- all sizes, really cheap.

Thanks for the compliments!!

Very Cute!
My husband and I recently painted the veins on my growing belly and turned it into a tree. I'm sure this little girl will be very embarrassed by these pictures one day.
