Ya know, I've kind of been hoping my husband would get me something to commemorate the birth of our son when he arrives in February (doubtful..the man has yet to remember to fill my stocking at Christmas). But I never thought of those kinds of gifts as "rewards" for surviving the nine months and then pushing out the baby (seems tacky). It seems to me like a very sweet commemorative type thing for a husband to give the mother of his child/ren.

I come from a family of non-sewers. My mom finally just gave me her machine earlier this year because she never uses it. Shortly after that, I found out I was pregnant. After a couple small projects that involved nothing more than simple mending (I had to teach myself, my mom had no clue), I decided to make a quilt for my baby boy.

My husband and I sorted through our clothes and picked out pieces with interesting textures, including favorite old shirts, a bridesmaid top from our wedding, pants I've had since 6th grade, etc and then I slowly and very painstakingly sewed them into a quilt. It's far from perfect (despite my best efforts, one of the squares is the turned the WRONG WAY) and I have no idea how long it will last, but I love it.

I'm just finishing up the binding (I'm not due for another 14 weeks) but I know my proudest sewing moment will be when I wrap my new baby in that quilt when I bring him home in February!

I've seen a bunch of these pop up at church. My husband's older, single cousin keeps one just to pass to the kids around her to keep them quiet so she can enjoy the service. My mom even just made one for our impending little boy. They're great! I even kind of enjoy playing with them :X

For the record, it looks to me like the chandelier is more toward the center of the room and not directly above the crib. I don't think it's quite the safety hazard it's being berated for.

Plus I love chandeliers and wish there was somewhere in my nursery for one! My friend has a beautiful black one that provides a really nice soft light for late night breast-feeding. Enough to see what you're doing but not so much that you're blinded when stumbling in at 2 am.

I like the first 2 rooms, not wild about the 2nd two. I really dislike theme-y nurseries..very little room for growth and changes in taste.

And I might be stealing that ribbon mobile idea...
