When I was single a few years back, I had a tiny space. Moaning about my hamper problems one day, a friend suggested the rolling underbed wire carts like kids stash their sports stuff in, about $15 at Target. I got two, one for whites, one for darks. Worked great!

Good ideas, but yeah I think you'll do better to be more specific. Tie it to something you do every day in the kitchen, like maybe waiting on coffee to brew, or popcorn in the microwave. Do whatever amount of dishes you can in that time frame every time you are in the kitchen, instead of trying to convince yourself to do it all at one time.

HA, if I am alone on the weekend b/c hubs is away, I do get sloppy! never thought about it before.

If you don't need or want that opening (assume there is other ways to access the room), and that seems to be the best spot for the tv/gaming, then I would check into having the columns removed and a wall/entertainment center installed. Just keep a check on the room flow, and how it works with the rest of the house.

Summer traveling is lots easier to pack for than winter IMO. And while I dont toss clothes, I always pack several less than I need with the full intention of buying while on vacation (and it's part of my vacation budget). So I leave plenty of suitcase room to come home with more than I left with.

I stayed at a lakehouse VRBO rental this past weekend with my family. A 70 year old couple were renting it out. She had knick-knacks on every single table top, and stuff on all the countertop. I don't know where they expected us to put anything!

So that's rule #1, get rid of your 'clutter'! It even made my SIL feel bad about her own house which she said had too much stuff in it like that. Not what vacation is for!

But the outside was wonderful, thank heavens!

This owner said we could leave good food in the fridge which helped us, since taking it all usually isn't an option and too much gets tossed.

I think what you have looks pretty darn good, and is a good solution. Short of as someone above suggested, being able to build a contained garden where both you and kittles could enjoy together - which would be awesome!

I would do it. Worst case, if you hate it, go back and paint it a different color after the fact. But in a light neutral, I've done it with very nice results.

I read YHL all the time too, and really like them - they are funny, have a great writing style. I don't particularly like this faux-art, or the green rug. I really miss how they used to work together as a team. Lately, it's much more a lifestyle blog than a real DIY blog. While I used to learn from it, now it's more entertainment.

LOVE IT! I can see how you'd have to be a watch-tv-in-bed kind of person, but it seems like a great solution for a small space.
