I've moved cross country twice. I've always had the best luck finding new lasting friends through my interests. I'm a garden nut,I love spending time with my dog and I love ceramics. Some of my most awesome friends have been met at either the dog park, at some gardening related activity or at a ceramics function/class. You know you've already got something in common and it's just a matter of finding the folks that are there that you really click with.

Oh and when you go to the store you are not allowed to sit on anything not chairs, sofas, anything.

We have a couple of trunks. One is full of xmas stuff, and the other has extra bedding, blankets, etc. Both serve as tabletops. The xmas trunk is our TV stand and the bedding one has office printers and similar gadgets living on top of it.

The center trunk looks like a real tree branch. I bet you could make your own with some copper (or similar) tubing - drill holes and glue the branches on once you've bent them to a nice curvy shape. The leaves and birds would be easy to make. Once you spray it all one solid color it would hide the fact that it was homemade.

Always check the sex offender website for your city/state for the address you are thinking of moving in to. We were recently deciding between two small houses to rent, I checked the site for our area and one of the houses had a voilent, multiple time sex offender living in the house next door. Obviously we took the other house.

Our other big thing is electrical, we've rented so many places with crazy electrical. Water heaters and water pressure are another peeve that you don't often think of until after you've moved in to the place.

Most other things I usually check have already been covered - painting, appliances, landscapes etc.
