I use vintage Fireking anniversary edition whites with a swirl pattern and gold band around the top. For color, I collect their mugs which I can sit on my woodburning stove in the winter. Glasbake also made these square mugs that I use daily for everything from leftover casserole to french onion soup.

They don't make them like they used to. I have the vintage Vornado, and after cleaning the motor, it runs perfectly. But the blade was replaced at some point, and I've had to look around for a new one. This one is out of alignment, making the fan noisy and jumpy. But I wouldn't sell it for the world!

They are only a little taller, too, just slightly higher off the ground than a chair. It's a tough height to work with.

That George Smith couch has seen better days. Is there a scene in that movie where Jennifer Aniston gets bum-rushed by a vagrant?

Prewar apts don't really give you the space you need to work an all-white palette. The shag rug and the porch swig sofa are wrong here. I don't like the bed, either. Maybe in another apt with a more dramatic palette, something small and dark. The kitchen is the kicker, though. All that white marble completes the Great Hereafter effect that seems very 80s to me. All the rooms remind me A Dress Boutique In Nolita, a Keith McNally restaurant and A Hotel Lobby. Way too consumerist and cold.

I live in a rare commercial space in Prospect Heights and love taking my relatives on walks through Park Slope. Many people love brownstones, but they're not for me. This is fascinating peek into my neighbors' homes, though. Nice renovation job.

Agreed. We have String our my bedroom. My husband has until August to help me finish painting. Otherwise, I will do it all by myself whether he likes it or not.

Both of my cats were street rescues. One wants to go out all the time, and the other will occasionally venture out. But she really loves to sleep during the day, and a nice patch of sun and an open window is heaven.

As for the other, we have an indoor catio under a skylight. There is a 12 ft cat tree my husband built, even though she climbs a ladder and prefers that. Then she can go out on the roof for fresh air in the evening.

We thought both cats would enjoy it, but not so much! This is a good idea for indoor cats, though.

Nah, he cheaped out on the couch. Alcove studios in the West Village are pricey, though. No pity party for the sqft!

I give it a solid B

The sauna wood slats in the bathroom are pretentious and out of place. Cleanliness should be the operative word here.

The rug is gorgeous, but there is too much blue in the gray. It's cheesy. The gunmetal gray shelves are horrible. This does not look spacious to me at all, because the palette is heavy. The striped pillows work in a Georgian townhouse, but not a modern apartment.

Harsh criticism if you're inclined to accept it, but overall, it is tastefully done. But this person paid people and should have gone the extra $ distance and hired better.

Here is a palette with your sofa color to give you an idea of which browns, golds, creams and grays work. I love these panels and have some from the same maker in batik beige.

But I agree with the suggestions you go with brown, cream and gold predominantly. You could get a gorgeous kilim and work the navy into it.

Another way to introduce a little bit of pattern is with throw pillows. I love these with Donghia fabric.

Good point. When I lived in Bushwick, there were mattress bootleggers who paid tramps to round up the old discarded mattresses on trash day and bring them to their factory. The mattresses were wrapped with new fabric, but sometimes bedbugs survived. That's what my landlord told me. He said to watch out for those places, because the girl downstairs got them that way (maybe.)
