This is an interesting discussion. I am moving into my mom's spare bedroom (approx 12' x 14' (USfeet)) which has wall-to-wall carpeting that is nice, but I would like to keep it nice by using an area rug over the carpet so I don't ruin the carpeting (I'm rather a slob). And the carpet that's there is a small berber type of carpet in a light beige so it sits flat. Nice stuff, no wonder I'm concerned about ruining it! I was thinking of a seagrass or woven bamboo area rug but all area rugs are pretty costly once you get into the size I'm looking at (9' x 12' (USfeet)). So I've decided the best thing to do is look at indoor/outdoor carpet available at my local home store that is sold by the square yard and have the edges bound. I would like a solid, seamless, unpatterned area rug, so this would work for me. I am going to start pricing these to see how much I can save versus going the area rug route. Maybe a sage green or grey/beige color of some kind -- depends on what's available! But I have high hopes this is the way to go to get the best look for the least amount of cash. Anyone with tips?

Hi Folks, this question is about the daybed being discussed here from West Elm: has anyone used their own standard mattress with the frame, or has everyone bought the mattress/futon from West Elm with the frame? Reason I ask: I have a twin mattress already. Was wondering if anyone who used their own standard twin found that it fit the frame or was "off a bit" or impossible to use? I haven't bought furniture from West Elm before and wonder what people who already own this piece have to say. Thanks!

Have found the discussion quite helpful in envisioning how the unit would work in my home: with a very large pillow at one end and maybe a couple smaller pillows of varying size in front of the big one. A lounge look.

Thanks for any responses. :-)
