We have 2 of them and use them on our towel warmer/drier and now on the Christmas tree lights. They are pretty neat.

When we receive catalogs we pile them near the phone and then spend some time calling each company and asking to be removed from their mailing list, saying that we usually shop online and don't care for paper catalogs. It was time consuming the first year but now we get only a few catalogs, primarily during the holiday season.

We have 3 sets of sheet and some extra pillow cases. The oldest twin set is about 6 years old and has been pilling for a while now. The queen set bought 5 years ago is still in perfect condition, so is the other twin set, so I guess some batches are better than others. The kids do not sleep in anything else, so I need to get another set to replace the old pilling one.
They don't last as long grandmothers coton sheet but I think almost 7 years of continuous use is pretty good.

Also check MamaMadeThem on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/MamaMadeThem). Her toys are very well made and affordable. My kids love them.

Repaint the wood and apply a colored grout on top of the existing grout. Keep the tiles white.

I also love the simple idea of using a tablecloth. It gives you the best flexibility and comes in fantastic patterns

I love pyh's idea of installing a fountain on the barrel to prevent mosquitoes to lay eggs. That's genius!

I would not worry about irrigation. Being in Singapore they will get more than enough rain.

I like to use glass bottles since they don't take a lot of 'floor' space. I use regular wine/liquor bottles for small grains (couscous, quinoa, etc) and collected a few wider mouth bottles for beans.

Instead of waiting to get the tax refund you can ask your employer to adjust your monthly tax payment to reflect the estimated refund. You pay less taxes each month instead of waiting for your refund. It's what we did when we installed our solar panels.

I think I need to go to HD to buy a couple.

We have the 'healthy' things that we eat at our house and things we never buy or cook but are ok occasionally at other peoples houses or parties or when we're on the road. Our kids don't have allergies so they can try everything. We talk about healthy food, empty food, food that gives energy for the day, food that grows muscles and where the food comes from. We eat meat from time and they now realize it comes from an animal.
When they grow up I want them to know what the standards are in our family and why and let them experiment and decide what they want to eat. At least they will know that food can be prepared at home from scratch and hopefully they will be capable of cooking a few cheap and healthy meals for themselves.

For warm lunch I reheat my lunch at home in the morning. I rinse my (metal) lunch container with hot water before putting my hot food in it. I wrap a towel around it and put it in my lunch bag. It stays warm enough for me until lunch time.

What about polyester insulation? It doesn't seem as bad as fiberglass. It's not mentioned in your article.

Now I keep a set of chopsticks in my purse, along with a little clothe napkin, a spoon for the kids and even a pocket knife in case I have to split a slice of pizza. I rarely use disposable anymore when I eat out. It feels good.
When chopsticks or spoons are dirty I just roll them in my napkin and wash them at home.

I don't know about the green factor but painting is one of the few things I now leave to professionals. I hate preparing and spackling the walls and I need tons of masking tape when I do it myself. The contractors I hired did an incredible job at smoothing all walls, used no tape at all and painted so evenly that I cannot see roller strokes in any kind of light. The room looks new, not just freshly painted. I will do tiles, electrical work, flooring, regrading backyard, build a patio, take down trees, build or transform furniture anytime but I'm not going to paint anything myself anymore. Next project: the staircase. The contractors will do it.

We've been using Eneloop for a couple of years and love them. They are great for things that use little energy or are not used often like clocks, remote controls, etc. And the ones we keep in the drawer are always charged when we need them. They even work well enough with the camera's external flash.
I would not use anything else.
