Since we moved into our new place last August we've not taken our bikes off our dining room wall [ http://craftscafe.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/bike-wall-art/ ] until (thankfully!) this weekend! All of our weekends last summer & fall were spent setting up our new place. So my advice is – don’t let your apartment decorating addiction take over your life! :-)

I'd rather use them on the outside of a no-longer-attractive chest of drawers:

& I use the furminator occasionally but definitely caution against overdoing, especially when you're new to this device!

Lots of great advice! Our amazingly well behaved rescued lab-chow pup (now 6 years old - his wild days well behind him) gets a good brushing every week. Whenever I vacuum the house (HEPA filter a must) I then immediately take him outside & we spend some quality time with a brush. He tolerates it pretty well because he knows a great treat will follow. He's exceptionally clean otherwise & we only take him to a groomer once every three-four months or so. & one super adorable quality of his - I always wipe his paws when he enters our home after a walk if it’s wet or still raining outside (a frequent occurrence in Seattle). He actually expects me to do that now so every time we get inside & he knows his paws are wet he'll just patiently sit & wait for me to wipe his paws. He'll even lift them for me! (ok... I have to ask him to do it & it only works with front paws)...
Can you tell I am a proud pup lover? :-) Here is our kitty identified pup (oh yeah, he totally thinks he's a cat!):

Best of luck with your adorable new family member!

I'm envious of Shauna & Stephen's craft space! What a great place to spend your days.... My craft room was recently featured on Martha's blog among many amazing spaces... http://craftscafe.wordpress.com/2010/04/08/my-craft-room-among-the-most-creative-on-marthasteward-com/

For earth day I created an etsy treasury featuring crafty public transit commuters:

and found one great more affordable example of a customizable bus scroll art by HirondelleRustique - my personal favorite version.

I repurposed various containers (vintage tea cups, tomato cans, pretty shoe boxes) & utilized otherwise unpractical furniture to organize my work space. It works great & now I love spending time in there!

bitdot - i love it! very expensive though but so beautiful!

i recently bought four metal file cases at a thrift store - each $2.50!!!! They look awesome stacked on top of each other & allowed me to perfectly organize my jewelry supplies. Here's a photo:

I especially like that one of them was mustard color & the other three were gray... Someone must have gotten rid of them all at once. Each was labeled with a different decade from 50s to 80s... No idea what they were used for before!

i really like the look of that radiator heater - assuming it no longer functions & is also used as a house plant table. i'm quite addicted to house plants (25 & counting!) & love using every surface i can to add more!

now that i think of it, i remember seeing air plants in little shells somewhere on a blog - they also were hanging but the plus would be they would not require watering! for a less messy hanging garden experience.

I love the closet work space idea! Sadly we wouldn't be able to sacrifice any of the few closets we do have to implement it... One way I recently came up with to save space in my "craft office":

I used an ikea CD tower (which was otherwise taking up room in our office without much purpose anymore) to expand my accessible storage capacity by laying the tower sideways on top of a vintage table. I currently have the excess length covered by a tall mirror but since I tested this system out (& who needs CD towers anymore? Yay for downloadable package-free music!) ) & it's really working for me I'm going to saw the extra length off in the near future. See third picture from the bottom:
http://craftscafe.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/new-crafts-space/
I can store items in every nook binders & magazines & books on the top. The best part - didn't spend a penny on it!
