I tried. Right after reading this article I was inspired. But twenty to thirty minutes of sleep ended up being an hour and a half of effort. Working graveyard has made the world of sleep completely elusive to me.

Thanks everybody! I have also only ever seen these canned, and what a treat to have received them fresh because the flavor is much, much better. I had no idea! And @ kaybates2, yes indeed :)

@ Rosebud, I live in Las Vegas, and have never seen a line like that here, BUT I was visiting a friend in Northern California (in Oakland), and there was a line all the way around the store. I also asked about it, and got the same response, that that's just the way it is there, and that it moves pretty quickly (and it did). Anyway, it appears it is not just an east coast thing.

I use coffee grinds on my body all the time with some olive or coconut oil mixed in. Makes my skin very soft! For my face I use green tea and ground amla (Indian gooseberry which you can get at Indian markets), which are both nice since when they get in the water they soften up just a bit so they don't tear my skin, but they also do a great job of exfoliating, and have lots of antioxidants! I also do full fat greek yogurt facials when my skin is looking a little tired and it looks amazing after ten to twenty minutes of just leaving that on - nice and plump and fresh. I seriously love using kitchen items as beauty products. Honey for lip gloss. Beet juice (if you boil the beets longer the juice goes from bright pink to deep red and then to a burnt orange kind of color, so it's customizable :) )or raspberries sometimes for cheek and lip stain, or to brighten up the red in my hair. So satisfying to know that something that is just sitting in my house can feed me and make me look pretty :)

@alejandraramos - There is actually a variety called Licorice Basil. Wikipedia says it contains the chemical anethole, which is found in anise.

When I was staying in Amsterdam for a few months and subletting an apartment from a couple I was completely obsessed with their electric kettle. I bought a very small cheap one from an Asian market here, but it is nowhere near the quality of the one I used in Amsterdam. I still have yet to get the one I want. One of my good friends came back with one from Ireland, and I was very jealous. They're so much faster! And no, Estelle, they're not common at all here unfortunately.

1) The First Lady looks lovely, and I always love to see the Obamas dancing.
2) Those apples look delicious!
3) Agree with Ruckus about the dreary beigeness
4) I want to love the chairs they're sitting on... but the gold frame - bleh. The print is pretty cool though.
5) Also a fan of the grasscloth wallpaper.

=)

Hi everybody thanks for all the suggestions! Unfortunately I bought a set the day before my question was posted, but I think it may turn out alright. I ended up finding something on overstock - a stainless steel and copper set with only a couple of key pieces, a really good price, and some very positive reviews. I also bought a cast iron pan at a local store for about $20 and have already gotten a lot of mileage out of it. Fortunately, I did inadvertently follow the advice of many of you and focus more on my knives, and after about a year or so of lusting, finally bought this: SEXY!
and also got a matching paring knife. I'm pretty excited =) I hope it works out!

Holy smokes I had no idea this was such a contentious topic. I absolutely LOVE the bed on the floor. I also love most of the examples above. I'm half Japanese though I don't have any contact with the Asian half of my family, and was raised without any Asian influence, so I can't really attribute my love for low beds to that I don't think... Although who knows, I do love to sit on the floor, and have always thought there are just too many chairs in the world!
I live in the desert where there aren't many concerns about mould or bedbugs (it's even too hot for fleas here, so my dog is a pretty clean fella as well). I just think beds on the floor are beautiful, relaxing, and much more practical. I'm all for minimizing in any way, and I just don't see the point of a bed frame. If your floor is dirty I think the problem is with the floor not the bed... and I don't ever wear my shoes around the house!
And personally I think when a guy has his bed on the floor it screams practical, efficient, and zen to me =) My boyfriend had his bed on the floor when I met him and I just thought his bedroom, which had a mattress a small desk and a little framed picture of an elk was so charmingly tranquil.
