I think the TV is fine where it is; advice coming from one who would never, never put the TV over the fireplace.

Having said that, here's what I would do.
De-clutter the corner where the bookcase and chair are. Ideally, remove the speakers as well. Change the drapes to a solid color, paint the niche in the same color as the drapes (to get some symmetry) install a picture light and mount the big art piece from the wall opposite the TV in the niche. Move one of the chairs (less ottoman) in the corner, between the TV setting and the freshly painted niche :-)
I think the fireplace and the TV cabinet work fine together in the same room so maintaining them as focus points is the key. I also like how the TV is almost the same height as the mantel.

Leave the floating sofa where it is but add a small bookcase at the back. The shelf in the photo looks too light for the sofa and it doesn't give you storage for the books and art which are currently in the bookcase int he corner.
Put the second sofa along the wall opposite the TV. Mount art on the wall above it. Get a coffee table for the floating sofa and side tables for the one along the wall.

On a different note, if you replace the curtains, maybe get a longer rod

Regardless how small a space, I think it can become a dream hideaway for kids as long as it has a window; and a good sized one, with a view to the outside. I can't see a kid being happy in a closet for more than two fun nights. After that, it's back to basically sleeping in a closet while others have rooms ....

Re:...conflicting reviews of cleaning windows with newspaper. One commenter recently wrote on AT that that strategy stopped working well many years ago when newsprint production was changed somehow--I forget the details...

You are correct. Long gone are the times when the black print ink contained led; which, in turn, made those windows shine.

This is sad! I'm all for smart small spaces but this is not it. All I see is a very superficial, yet costly, approach. Is the 200 hundred unit development going to be designed by the same team? The one that - not to repeat everything that was so cleverly nailed here - the team, I say, that ... allows for TWO DESK SPACES in a 160sqf?!? Who needs that?!?

Smart, fun and different! Would work even better without the left hand side lower one, in wood, but I like the idea. I wouldn't have them in my house, though, since I'm sure they would drive me crazy in the shortest of time.

I kinda' got tired of the "novelty" of using suitcases, chairs, bar stools, and even small ladders as nightstands. I found the wall mounted cabinets and cube very calming, sleek and inspiring. I have been thinking of replacing the very nice, yet not very useful, small round garden tables we have in our bedroom with something stronger (in terms of both statement and construction). Very useful topic, indeed.

... no, I dont't find it inspiring; not my taste at all ... As a rule of mine, I try to stay as far as possible from tape effects and similar techniques.
