We fried up a bad batch of fish accidentally, and the smell lingered for WEEKS. Opening all the windows only helped while they were open. The garbage was taken out, dishwasher run multiple times, hard surfaces wiped down [including walls in kitchen] and soft surfaces sprayed with Febreeze. Still, the smell would return. A tray of vinegar didn't even help. In desparation, I boiled water with a huge handful of cloves and jasmine tea on the stove, and poof, gone! Magic.

Do you have cocoa powder? I always find myself with half a tub leftover from some great endeavor, and the best way to use it up in my opinion is mixed into a baked good!

I found an neat little cook book/pamphlet that must have been from a manufacturer of mazola in my grandfather-in-law's house. Of course, I had NO CLUE what mazola was [a canola-like corn based oil] and most of the recipes honestly weren't too appetizing.

Instructions for "Pasta with Red Sauce" included boiling the noodles for a whopping 30 minutes. The sauce was made with another unfamiliar shortening/fat and canned tomatoes, no onions or garlic or herbs at all.

It seemed a well worn book, illustrating to me just how much more trust our ancestors put into the corporate food industry.

Awesome! As kids, my sister and I would mold little brown sugar cakes to play 'olden times'. Now I can go make the real deal!

omg, don't skip out on the egg wash! I was a young squeemish girl from the boonies when I went away to college. There, my Japanese class got together and several of the international students cooked this for us - so amazing! I remember it was done in an electric cooker right on the table, possibly a rice cooker/steamer? Such a great communal experience!
