No I understand that this was just for personal use and that doesn't really bother me so much. I just wanted to bring up the copyright issue for those who may have never considered the artist behind the image. On sites such as Etsy (which I love by the way) I do occasionally see people take other people's artwork and hack them up for their own use in a way that the original piece is still recognizable yet the artist is not credited, and permission is not given.

Again, I am not trying to make any statements about this particular person who made the picture. But I have to disagree that the integrity of one's artwork shouldn't be taken seriously. I don't know many artists who allow others to manipulate their designs for whatever purpose. Sorry for stirring the pot.

I love it. But perhaps it is just me.... I wouldn't really call $300 affordable. Cheaper than the original? Indeed. But affordable?

As someone who makes their living as an artist, I am not a huge fan of people manipulating or altering someone else's artwork without their permission. Had the mother laid in the grass with her son (in a red dress perhaps) and reinterpreted the art, that would have been more personal (and less an infringement of copyright) but when you start photoshoping other's artwork, it should be a no-no.

I am not trying to break bad on the family in question. It is a sweet idea. Just trying to give an artist's perspective.

Hey... any baby would look great in those. She could wear her baby thong to match. Don't forget the lipstick.

(Right now I am glad I had a boy)

the Capri #2 in tangerine is quite lovely. It would look great in my living room. (as the giraffe lamp would look great in my new son's nursery)

At the moment it would be the self-dispensing squeezy spoon. Jackson Calder just started eating solids and this spoon would work perfectly with all the homemade babyfood we have been making.

Reminds me of the sort of punky version of Marie Antoinette staring Kirsten Dunst.

audrey...

my mom actually made the blocks for Jackson as a gift. The sides have these quirky creatures... a dragonfly, an elephant and a dinosaur.

i believe she used a pattern from the fabric store. it was a book that had lots of cute baby stuff to sew. i can try to find the name of the book she used.

in the meantime, i did a search and found this:

ambies...

The dresser was very pretty as is, a bunch of inlay on the front and some cool deco hardware... however, it was in really poor shape and the whole top was worn down and starting to chip. We sanded it a little bit, but the key is to use Kilz primer if you are painting a light color. This keeps the dark stain from bleeding through the paint color. Then paint the dresser and I would suggest topping it off with a sealant coat. We didn't do that part yet because we wanted it in the room before the baby was born and then the winter came. Once it warms up here in Chicago we will take the dresser outside and finish it properly.

As for sticking, the dresser is old so the drawers aren't that smooth anyway. Rubbing candle wax on the bottom edges of the drawer will help, but the real key is to paint very thin layers so that the paint isn't too thick.

Hope that helps.

Amanda,

I was afraid it would take up too much space but actually the photo is sort of deceiving. The shelving unit is only about a foot deep and then the dresser is maybe another 15 inches or so... There is plenty of floor space and everything is so convenient.

Cloth diapers rock. Glad to hear other people do the same.

Oh... is anyone having any trouble voting. I have had two friends tell me today that they tried to vote but couldn't despite being logged in. It just keeps telling them to log in and then tells them they are already logged in. That stinks. I wonder how many other entries have lost votes too.

Amber....

Hi. The fabric is an Alexander Henry print. They have several different colorways available. This is where I buy an AH prints from http://www.buyfabricsonline.com/ Another great source for fabrics would be http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/fabric or http://www.reprodepot.com/

As for Des Plaines, even though I find myself geographically challenged at the moment, at least my interior can look fabulous! ;)

Perhaps I'll see you on the playground.
Kelly

Jackson would love to have a "man-bag" just like his daddy. He would carry all his essentials:
* a little plastic compass just like his daddy
*treats for our boston terrier (his best friend)
*his first tooth (no way is he 'giving it away' to the tooth fairy)
&
* "Bartelby" his other best buddy http://www.blablakids.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=B&Product_Code=120990

We painted our nursery in Martha Stewart's "Hemp Rope"...a nice khaki color that looks great with white trim.

The accent colors are blue, green, and eggplant and look terrific with the walls.

We had the same issue as we have a dog and 3 cats. We considered one of those temporary screen doors that attaches to the frame and then retracts out of the way (like a window shade) but we just went with a baby gate. Our cats are mighty leapers too so we got a gate that was somewhat taller than others and then also raised it slightly off the floor, high enough to make it taller but not so high that a cat could squeeze underneath.
It has worked great for the past 5 months and we also like having the nursery door open so we can just peek in whilst the little one sleeps.

It isn't in the picture but I am partial to the wall decals that match each individual theme. I saw a few versions at Target already. So cute.
