twylag - I thought the same thing, LOL

I def. want to make something different this year for thanksgiving to add to the meal but I'm not sure what.

one year I did a cream corn pudding type thing and oven roasted veggies (potato, carrots, squash, etc) and my brother and husband, who are very traditional when it comes to thanksgiving, were disappointed...they just wanted basic corn out of can with some butter and old fashion mashed potatoes.

i rarely use my slow cooker to make stews, mostly use it to cook larger meats and chicken. I actually made a pot roast with veggies in it yesterday while I ran a 5K race with friends.

I usually use chicken thighs because they just come out juicier and I like to use various sauces, sesame ginger for an asian twist, bbq sauces, lemon caper sauce, whatever .... serve with rice and a salad or slaw...

same goes for large piece of pork or beef.

Love it!

@eilonwy ... i have a simple baked buffalo chicken recipe I like to use.

marinate the chicken in hot sauce and spices like Emerils southwest or a blen of your own spicy spices. marinate for about two hours

remove chicken from marinade and coat with a mixture of breadcrumbs and panko crumbs. Bake on a raised baking rack until cooked (a raised rack will allow the chicken to cook on all sides and get crispy.

it's simple and tastey... enjoy.

as for me...my sister's bday is tomorrow so i baked her a halloween cake this morning: chocolate cake with orange frosting with dark chocolate shavings on top. i'm definately not a baker but it's the thought that counts, right? :o)

i'm thinking of throwing some ribs in the slow cooker for tomorrow... haven't decided yet.

Weekend of October 30-31, 2010

friday night we were lazy so we got take out pizza from a local place ...it was really good.

Saturday I found some bone in pork ribs at my local grocery store on sale that tempted me. I slathered them in an asian seasoning mix and put them in the slowe cooker for a few hours. Then for the last hour I poured in some sweet and spicy Thai sauce... served with sticky white rice and steamed sugar snap peas. YUM

Yesterday I was still in a slow cooked kick so I put some bone in chicken breasts in there with a southwest seasoning mixture and let them cook. Once cooked I shredded the chicken and made burritos with chili verde sauce.

i have leftovers of both in my fridge so I'll be eating both meals again today and tomorrow.

not a fan of split pea soup but i had it recently with barley at Califorina Pizza Kitchen and now I'm itching to make it. so I might give that a try sometime this week...and since it's suppose to rain all week that might be a good thing to make.

today I made homemade pizza ... made DH his boring usual: tomato sauce, salami, sausage, mushroom and cheese.

i ventured out... made one half with thinnly sliced potato drizzled with rosemary infused olive oil, carmalized onions, sausage and grated cheese and the other half with ricotta mixture (ricotta, grated cheese, s&p, garlic and shredded mozzarella), sausage, chopped fresh tomato and mozzarella cheese.

alot of toppings to taste but i have to say that my pizza was great... i saw both on a tv show recently and couldn't decide which to make first so I made both.

no way I can pick just one, here are some of my favorites:

-mix ricotta with pesto, toss with hot spaghetti and top parmesan cheese

- make a mixture of raw chopped tomato, minced garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper and basil and toss with hot spaghetti and top with parmesan cheese

- saute yellow squash and onions, crumble in some spicy sausage, mix in a tablespoon of dijon mustard and a little pasta water to make a sauce. Toss with whole wheat penne and top with parm cheese, drizzel of EVOO and fresh black pepper (I know sounds weird but it's REALLY good)

I agree with Cooks Illustrated...

I prefer the tastier ww pasta over regular white pasta anyday but it totally depends on the sauce. Traditional sunday tomato sauce with meatballs looses it's richness when paired with a ww pasta, they are two strong flavors that clash. same would go for sometime as delicate as picatta sauce... the ww pasta is to strong flavored.

I like ww pastas with veggie bases... roasted veggies tossed with ww pasta drizzled with olive oil and dusted with romano cheese. YUM

i've always wanted to try/make kim chee. I've heard great things about it but have never seen it on a menu.

I love to add nappa cabbage to a salad or make slaw with it.

DH isn't a fan ... i wish they weren't such huge heads, I love it but can't finish a whole head by myself no matter how many different ways I make it.
