My oldest, now in her own bed at 3, would not/could not sleep alone. She needed someone (me) close to her. She literally would not be laid down in a bed/crib without me next to her from day one. The nurses in the hospital supported our cosleeping as well. I'm glad/proud that I gave her what she needed. There is good research to support co-sleeping with a sober/nonsmoking/breastfeeding mother.

I also wanted to add, it is served as a beverage around here and always placed on the dessert table at Thanksgiving/Christmas. I don't believe I've ever had it outside of the holiday season.

My grandmother and mom and now, myself, all make this at Christmas time. I think it may be more of a Tennessee dish than Southern in general because people out of this area don't usually know about it (especially the homemade version). Even my husband, from southern Kentucky, had never had a homemade boiled custard until he met me/my family.

Scrambled or fried eggs should be easy to eat for protein without chewing too much.

I use a very large round cake pan that i have from making my wedding cake several years ago. I am making 2 turkeys this year for the same meal because we are having a large crowd. I will put the other one in a very large cast iron skillet.

@bina - cooking does not remove fiber from fruits. It does/can concentrate the sugars due to the decreased volume (water) due to evaporation from cooking.

I also agree with @AmyDerk. No ONE food is off limits. Anything is fair game, just make a few healthy options available for everyone and DON'T single her out. Most people hate that. Most people with diabetes should be on a consistent carbohydrate diet - NOT low carb! I also agree that you should have some artificial sweeteners available.

Nightwaking is normal. I have a 9 month old who is still waking 2-3 times a night. I don't agree with letting a baby cry-it-out. (what is "it", anyways?) I think it can break trust; I also think it is something that doesn't work as well as people act like it does. It helps to think about it as a milestone that will be met when baby is ready. One waking a night really isn't bad.
