I do think there is science in sound. I've been using SonicAid and some others for years. However this is not the same as wanting to relax or chill. I think they got lazy on the list.

I don't really see the neighbor as out of line, perhaps they were told "text if there are issues". I see two parties who are not handling things correctly. I'd be careful about any sort of retalliation tactics as this can cause a bigger problem. Check the building rules and city codes and attach them to letter. I'd write a kind letter to the neighbor describing what you've done and also list the #/times/contents of texts, ask them to place future complaints via the landlord, cc landlord. Take letter and show your phone texts to landlord and have them sign witnessed. Make full copies for all parties just in case you've got a lazy landlord. Once that is done I'd send a card 1x year "hoping for a year as happy neighbors"...only if you're in a good mood.

As an example I have a rental in building where the rules so you cannot disturb the neighbors, if nose from your dwelling can be heard outside the dwelling, it counts.I also had to pay a plumber for above said rental because my pipes were making noise, change of water pressure in the building. If an owner of the condo ignores the letters of the HOA the next time they want to have a tennant it is rejected. Very quickly the landlord deals with their tenants. A musician had to insulate his walls, a person with children had to hide their lovely wood floors, covered by rugs, a dog actually wears those little boots inside. I know no one wears shoes inside-we joke about it. All this of course depends on the rules.

I now live in Hong Kong and in our estate you can't disturb neighbors, few do actually. People have been forced to move out because they could not keep their pets/children from making noise. "Indoor voices-outdoor voices" is commonly heard. After a few complaints, & they send someone to listen, social services is called. After that visit you are told to leave or deal with legal issues. People adapt. That said when kids are out in parks they yell a lot, because they can. Pet sitting or daycare is common.

I have a loft with shared laundry units (free) but I got used to hanging my clothing to dry long ago so I seldom bother. I now have a flat in Hong Kong w/ a combo unit in the kitchen & I love it. I also hang my stuff to dry there-a load will dry on the shower rod overnight. I add a fan/space heater if it is real humid. Agreed a combo unit might take hours to really dry but I doubt I'll go back to the seperate type of units again. I don't notice many wrinkles but if I do I hang the item in the bathroom while I shower to steam it. I also make an effort to have low maintenance clothing.

In another place I also removed the tub and redid the tile for an open shower. I also have seperate flow controls for dual shower heads. The room seems huge. You could also do a ledge on the bottom w/ a curtain if you have room or want to make sure kids don't flood the room.

I'm in a small flat and our 3, going on 4 bikes are an issue. I haven't done anything, was hoping I'd be able to copy an idea. Here is what has been going on in my head. Raise the bed a bit with leg blocks, turn handle bars and slide under bed. Best to put on a tray of some sort. Get a wardrobe and remove interior and make into bike locker. I was measuring candidates today, must go in sideways on end. If you had room at the side of the bed you could put flat on end & hang cloth from ceiling to floor in front of bike. I saw an Ikeahacker art project that inspired that one. I've also played with using the Malm headboard as a bike garage, again moving handle bars. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80109421 I've also been trying to figure out how to store them in the bathtub. I shower at the gym anyway. I'll be back later to see if anyone tries these, the hubby doesn't want me hacking anything right now. Wish me luck!

Good Questions: How to Hide My Bike?

While living in the Philippines the electric was so expensive I put up a line under our deck, I was addicted. Now in Hong Kong I use a bathroom. I bought plastic hangers and some pegs I store in a cabinet. I turn on the exhaust fan and sometimes a small space heater to warm the room. Very quick. I have a dryer but rarely use it. If the weather is nice I put things out on the balcony on a length of rope. I use my extendable broom to lift the center of the line. Back in the US I'm trying to figure out how to dry things inside a loft. Our building won't allow a line on the roof. Thanks for all the ideas for drying racks, maybe I'll get one of those one day.

I'm allergic to dust mites so long ago I changed to an air mattress. The early ones were fine for me but my husband needed a topper so on went the dust cover. I've yet to wear one out. I know the PVC is not that green but think of the # of beds we have not consumed. We now have a sleep number which we purchased off CraigsList. This type of mattress doesn't have to be turned and doesn't need a box spring for support. It is very clean and if you look hard enough it can be recycled at the end of its useful life if you don't find any takers on Craigs or Freecycle. We'll never go back to a conventional mattress. If you move alot they are also wonderful.
