For any frozen veggies, I would try and cook them right now, store them in the fridge until the new freezer comes in, and then freeze them as cooked. It's actually one of my mom's trick to have some ready veggies as foundation of stews/stir fries/tarts etc, to freeze the veggies precooked or fully cooked. It takes less space, and it's as safe as anything. Anything with uncooked meat or dairy, I'd throw out. Stuff like, say, toaster waffles (what? doesn't everyone still have toaster waffles stashed for emergency), i think it's so processed that's it can probably withstand some thawing and refreezing if it hasn't completely thawed... Am I the only one who thinks this isn't such a great idea?? Don't get me wrong: it looks lovely. BUT, if you live in an apartment building and if at any point something is amiss and the super, or an electrician, or the fire dept or whoever needs to get into your apt and you're not there and can't be reached, unless they know exactly where your box is located, you're not helping them getting to the box quickly. allow this French person to weight in: i've learned from my tribe that you could definitely freeze some cheeses. For instance, buying already well-aged camembert (we're talking the raw stuff you don't find in the U.S.) means that you want to stop its aging further unless you're absolutely ready to eat it (and maybe there's a good deal at your local market and you've purchased five). The key is that the cheese will want to be thawed very slowly, in the fridge. And it will absolutely taste like you just purchased it!!! Can You, Should You Freeze Cheese? I don't know how cruel it is or whatever, but i do know this: this is a famous, well-known trick that kids do. I had encountered one such youtube vid once, showed it to my mom (who grew up on a farm) and she was like, "oh yeah, my brothers and his friends used to do that all the time when we were kids. Take 15 of them, line them up asleep, and then create some huge racket, waking them all up at the same time, creating a panic of feathers". so there you go. this advice from a French person ... Cheese should not be stored too cold! Many in France that don't have too hot a kitchen (or the old school way for people who had pantries in old old homes with thick walls) is actually to store cheeses out outside the fridge. Yes, even the creamier camemberts and brie. If you have a cellar for instance, that's a great place. But in any case, you do need to keep the cheese wrapped and separated enough that the flavors of one don't mix up with another. You don't want your goat cheese to smell like roquefort! my trick to keep it clean is to put everything in airtight containers. it's not only much easier to organize your fridge that way, being able to stack and all, but you also have way fewer 'items', and so removing three containers to give the shelf a wipe takes a second, rather than having to undo your game of tetris and then redo your tetris. In addition, the containers go into the dishwasher, so that job is not for you. New Fridges Designed for Americans' Awful Cleaning Habits Wall Street Journal | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn |

well to me, if you can definitely be sure that say, 15 people avail themselves to that service per van that's driving (but is that reasonable? I d assume every person would be looking to get a monster-load of stuff), then I guess you could call it an 'ecological indulgence" of some 20 miles to get groceries. It's really much more than you ought to 'invest' to get groceries, but it s not too scandalous if the stuff you're buying means you ll be eating less junk, less badly-raised meat etc. But any way you stretch it, it's still an ecological indulgence. Seriously, this is the third of these vids I'm watching, and I must repeat: the quality of the video work is truly disastrous. The camera moves way too much (invest in a tripod!), the light levels change (what is this, a 13-year-old's attempt at working the family camcorder?), and you need to figure out your sound better, which comes out distant probably because your mike is either not strong enough/too far, though you'd probably benefit in having a mike on the subject in the video. I bought peppercorns in those plastic gringers at TJ's too. Price-wise, you're better off buying the TJ peppercorns and the gringer together, using the peppercorns in your mills and reusing the grinder, since it makes the peppercorns (good quality too) come out at like $1.50, which is pretty good (at least in NYC)... another tip: avoid too small furniture. It is counter intuitive, but one (relatively) bigger piece of furniture along with a cast of normal size furniture will make the whole place seem bigger than a cast of diminutive pieces that make it seem as if you've stepped into a dollhouse. I like to support my local supermarket and farmer's market at in Brooklyn (Grand Army Plaza, yay!). Now my local supermarket is not friendly, their selection is so-so, I would never buy meat or frozen food from them because I'm not trusting them to respect the cold chain... But they are the local guy, they hire these little older ladies as cashiers and local kids to fill the shelves, and every neighborhoods needs a supermarket and I want mine to stay... ok, A for effort...
