I made this field guide for my then-six year old friend. Similar concept, but with paint chips!

I did it, before I even saw that article! Maybe Martha copied me?!? Just kidding.

There's a picture of it here: http://luckybydesign.blogspot.com/2010/10/bedroom-redesign.html

I am late in finding this post about my own project! But thanks for posting about it! My young friend absolutely loved it, and it was actually quite interesting to figure out what matched to what paint chip. The colour of a pea was absolutely nothing close to what I thought it would be!

My name's Erin and I'm from Calgary, too!!

What are your favourite home stores in Calgary, Erin? I love to visit 10th Avenue SW (Chintz & Company, Kit, Peridot, etc.) and also really like Steeling Home on 17th. And you know where else is a gem? The Value Village in South Calgary near Canyon Meadows! You can find some great stuff there!

This is pretty out of the box, but <A HREF="http://luckybydesign.blogspot.com/2010/08/diy-shoe-wall.html">this</A> is what I did!

My cat has a harness and a lead attached to the back steps and it lets him have a bit of leeway, but not too much. He loves going outside. The only problem is he often gets himself wrapped around the tree!

I like the idea of turning them into ottomans by putting foam on the tops and then covering it in fabric. I agree with others that spray painting the base a bright, glossy colour is the way to go. Here's a link on turning a coffee table into an ottoman: http://curbly.com/modhomeecteacher/posts/3749-how-to-turn-an-ugly-coffee-table-into-an-upholstered-bench

The other option you have is to paint the table tops with melamine paint. Melamine is pretty toxic stuff so be sure to ventilate well. Here's some instructions: http://www.hgtv.ca/articles/articledetails.aspx?ContentId=1915&cat=1&by=3

In my price range, old houses simply weren't available. I live in a condo townhouse, and there really aren't any of them that are older in my city.

I love the idea of replacing the doors, or at least the knobs. I hate the hollow-core doors that came with the place.

I love the look of painted hardwood but I don't think I ever would do it because I think it would really impact resale values. I'm always worried about making changes to this place that reflect an older aesthetic because of resale. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a place that is relatively new compared to most places in the world, and not many people appreciate older buildings like I do.

Both those houses are beautiful. If I could find one of those for CHEAP I'd totally buy it and do it up. If only I had the handy-skills.

What a beautiful space. All that light is such a luxury!

If it were me, I'd do something bold like bright Tiffany blue.

If you want to go with something a bit more subtle, I think a gray with a purple tone in it would be beautiful.

Oscar, I absolutely love the fireplace!

I happen to live in Calgary, too, and am wondering if you have any secret special gems of shops you like to frequent?

Did you get the Eames somewhere local?
