this is great! squirrels have been using my windowsill plants as a rodent club med. everything that i've tried just seems to make things more fun for them. (including rigging up a pretty nifty hanging plant system which they now jump into and swing like a giant dirt hammock, crafty little buggers) i'm sure they won't hurt themselves on the plastic forks, so i am going to give this a try.

i have a terrarium that had moss and succulents. i am worried about keeping the moss wet enough and drowning the succulents or watering the succulents only 1x month as with my other ones and drying out the moss. Are these two things meant to live together in a terrarium?

i loathe phones at the table. it feels like everyone does it incessantly. in response i have gotten super passive aggressive about it and if they whip out a cellphone, i take mine out and twiddle around with it for a good 5 minutes after the person has finished. and ignore them completely during that 5 minutes (which doesn't sound like a long time but trust me, the other person feels it! and they usually put the phone away for the rest of the meal. ha)

casseroles that freeze well! doesn't faith have a casserole bookbook out recently? maybe she is too modest to mention it, but the recipes that were posted here looked really nice! :) also maybe baked pasta dishes with lots of veg, pot pies, quiche/baked eggs and since you might want some sweets, what about baked cobblers?

It is a terrible to watch the horrible events happening and to feel completely powerless to help. I am glad to see that people are finding productive ways to do something positive. If you have issues with the Red Cross, please don't let that deter you from making a donation. There are many organizations currently on the ground doing good work. They include but are not limited to UNICEF, Mercy Corps, MSF (Doctors without Borders), Save the Children.

i am a terrible flower arranger so i can attest to the fact that using the same flower hides "mistakes" well. another trick is to hold the flowers in your hand like a bouquet. arrange it how you'd like it to look in the vase. then clip the bottoms (rather than doing stem by stem). also secure the stems with a string, long leaf, or rubber band. i went from terrible flower arranger to somewhat ok with those tips.

if you can ever buy fresh tofu, try it! it is like night and day with the packaged stuff in the grocery store. it's like a nice cheese from the shop versus kraft singles. it's really easy to use. the silken is great in soups and firmer preparations are great cubed in stir fries. super easy!

not sure if you all tried this, but you absolutely have to rinse them off then boil them for a couple of minutes. it helps with the texture IMMENSELY. i tried them with a good rinse and in various preparations and thought they were gross, but after boiling them they are much more appealing. that said, they are probably most suited to asian preparations, like pad thai or stir fries and not so much in place of wheat pastas (like this would be disastrous in spaghetti with meatballs, yikes!)

i got a great two compartment woven bamboo hamper years ago from pottery barn and can offer up a little tip. if you go to the store and buy the floor model, you get 10-20% off. they were on the expensive side but really nice so the discount really helped.
