Back home in Louisiana, it is understood that the best pecan pie is made with cane syrup. I definitely recommend Steen's cane syrup, cooked in small kettle batches right in Cajun country! Check it out...you won't be disappointed.

Where I'm from in St. Landry Parish (southwestern Louisiana), there are Marys in bathtubs galore. We used to call a particular stretch of the highway "Mary Central," due to the unusually high density of Marys in bathtubs.

My favorite, though not in a bathtub, was known as "Our Lady of the Fence Post." :)

Folks, please remember that wildlife is just that: wild. Please keep your distance, and be respectful of the animal(s). Deliberately leaving unattended pet food outside is a recipe for disaster; it is harmful to wild animals and your pets who then have to compete with wild animals for food.

Darker floors won't help the situation. I had black linoleum floors in every room of my last apartment. Even after sweeping daily, every speck of dust and lint was visible. Blech!

Finally, a post that mentions pet birds! I have 7 parrots in a small apartment, so I have a little bias.

First, there are bird people, and non-bird people. If you don't absolutely love birds, don't entertain the idea of owning one merely for the sake of teaching it to talk. They are complex--and messy--creatures.

On the topic of noise, the species of bird really makes a difference. Tiny Parrotlets are virtually noiseless, while my Sun Conure has forced us to install sound-proofing materials. If you cover your birds at night, they won't really "tweet" until you uncover them when YOU wake up.
