Also on ebay, but I'm sure you can get it much cheaper than this one:

I searched ingo maurer and it's the first thing that came up.

I have a wall system from Atlas, and yes, it was very expensive (you can price out any combination you want on their interactive web site). But they are made by hand, they are beautiful, you can move them if you move apartments (even though they look built in), and they are made to last forever. That's what I invested in, and that's what I got, and I couldn't be happier with the artistry and beauty.

Also, take into account that this kitchen is new-with time, personal touches, quirks, and vibrant pieces come into the mix. So I would cut him a break at this point.

But my two cents: I used Home Depot cabinets, which are a tiny step above Ikea, and couldn't be happier.

This is an Yngve Ekstrom designed Lamino chair. You can buy one in pristine condition now on retromoderndesign.com (click easy chairs and scroll about halfway down) for SEK 6500 (about $1,095 plus shipping).

Another pristine version went at auction for $600, but that was back in 2002:

and check out this ekstrom stool on ebay now:

I have this exact chair in leather, and I really love it. Good luck with the sale.

Thanks, B-More (are you from Baltimore? That's my home town)

The sofa is from a great ebay seller, realfineone, which has fantastic stuff. Here's the link to what they're selling now.

The sofa is Danish, teak, with cream linen. Don't know the designer. Here are some pics:

Hi HollyinDC: Yes, they do get dusty out in the open. But the great thing is that I use my "nice" china and glasses every day, whether I'm alone or have company, and just run my dishwasher (energy efficient Miele!) when it fills up, keeping everything clean and dust free.

Hi KatieD: Thanks! The counter/integrated sink are made of one sheet of stainless steel. You can bring a wooden board to Bowery Kitchen Supply, and they will wrap it in stainless for much cheaper than a regular kitchen design store.

Thanks, vbp. The lighting is almost all Max Sauze.

The curtain fabric in between the living room/bed is Josef Hoffman (from the Neue Galerie) and the curtains are wool and linen from B&J, which has the best fabric in the city.

Totally agreed with mdo: it was bad enough in the 70s; indefensible in today's design world!

laren: I have the exact same window set up, except that mine makes a right angle on the right, not on the left. I wanted regular curtains that 1. cleared the right angle 2. blocked out the light at night and 3. let in the light but blocked the view during the day (I have a hotel across the street).

So I went to Harry Zarin's fixtures store, and had two curtain rods made to orders--one that attaches to the ceiling and one that attaches inside the window--that both make the right angle turn, allowing the curtains to open completely on each side.

I made the curtains myself--they attach to plastic snaps on the rod--and I have to say, they satisfy all of my curtain requirements.

Here are some snaps that I took of them:

Apologies--I have Winter Sky in my bedroom. And I'm with visualingual--you have to try them out on your wall. There are a thousand bad greys.

Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | LA Good Question: Perfect Shade of Grey

Absolutely--a cool, slightly buish grey will work. You should check out the greys at Fine Paints of Europe, which are much more richly hued than cheaper paints. Although they come across as dull and steely in this color swatch, the Grey Mist and the darker Silverblade each have wonderful blue untertones:

I have Silverblade in my bedroom, and it's wonderful.

These black sugatsune angle brackets come in all different sizes. I have the stainless ones in my kitchen and they're gorgeous with wood shelving. You can orders them at Simon's Hardware.
