Congratulations! So excited for this! One note I thought I should mention is how unbelievably popular the kitchn is with the MEN in my life. It is truly the go to site for my husband, brother in law and dozens of other male friends. These are guys who do not really look at other cooking sites, but enjoy cooking. I cannot tell you how many times I have been at a dinner party and have complimented a dish that a male friend made and the response has been "oh, I got it from Faith at the kitchn!"

Yes, Trader Joe's did go to a different supplier on these. They used to be 8 pieces in the bag for $1.99...new ones are 6 to a bag.

Anyone else notice that TJs is changing up the qty or piece of things and in some case raising the price as well? Lots of Hidden inflation at TJs!

The string lights are standard mini white lights sold for christmas trees. We just twisted the cords so the lights would hang unevenly. We put in small hoos along the eaves of the house and the garage and ran the strings in adiagonal / triangle configuration.

ellsel, thanks for the nice comment. We re-painted, not re-stuccoed. Sorry, I don't have a referral for you, we painted the house ourselves (a BIG big job!) It is a custom color we had mixed at Catalina Paints.

Thank you everyone for the kind words! Yes the chairs are from IKEA. One note on those....They do fade pretty quickly from the sun. They went from a bright egg yolk yellow to a buttery yellow after just a few months outdoors. In hindsight, I would store them away when not in use.

The list of challenges interests me enough to read through this post and click on link for "more info". Form's website is not user friendly and gave me no more information about this project than the post (in fact, less!). Geez! How about some floor plans?

I agree with many that the cover did absolutely nothing for me. Though I have a large monitor, I found that I could not read the text with out zooming. After a couple of pages I found myself just flipping through to see the images...that's sad! (I read other on-line only mags like Neet and the text is readable there)

I'm interested to see how this magazine evolves. Right now it looks like the long lost issue of Domino (but with an awful cover). Online magazines are here to stay....I hope it is an exciting new galaxy that will be explored, not a consolation prize for the loss of print!

I know of someone who put a steel pre-fabricated barn on a property as a vacation home in California. Because it is a rural property, they were able to put in this "barn" without permits. They outfitted it with a full bathroom and shower and left the rest of the space pretty raw initially. Little-by-little, they have insulated and done some interior finishing themselves. It is an awesome space and takes advantage of the beautiful landscape where it sits. I know of an architect who is very familiar with this project. Let me know if you would like his name and contact info.

I think more than ever, sending out cards this year seems important to me. Many friends and family have had a rough year for one reason or another and getting a card in the mail is always a day brightener!
