I had Sweet Corn Ice Cream a couple years ago which was actually had sweet corn in the ice cream and topped with caramel popcorn with a blackberry puree at one of my favorite restaurants here in San Diego. It was delicious! By Pastry Chef Jack Fischer. MMM! But.. my favorite thing he makes is the Nine-Ten Half-Baked Chocolate Cake.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I just can't get into pegboard. It seems so cheap and cluttered and I would never want it... some of these are cute, just not for me. I don't like things hanging all over the walls unless it's artwork, bikes, maybe an odd unexpected item, but not kitchen pots, pans and tools...

Wouldn't the mayo leave greasy spots on walls that aren't painted with a sheen/gloss like bathroom and kitchen paints? I've been in plenty of homes where the paint is flat and this would just leave more of a mess.

I have a large filter container in my fridge, it's not a pitcher. I almost never take it out of the fridge. First thing in the morning when I get my glass of cold water, I grab a glass pitcher and fill it then pour into the filtered water container in the fridge. Same idea, but I fill the entire upper reservoir each time and sometimes twice a day because I drink like a fish!

I don't take it out of the fridge because I LOVE cold water. My husband always takes it out, sets it in the sink to fill, waits for the water to drain down and refill again, but he NEVER puts it back. Then, it's warm and I dont like it warm and we don't always have ice handy. :) This is why I keep it in the fridge at all times and just refill there!

Anal... I know.

@CLGOGGANS and @BENITAS - I would wonder if you are using the newspaper that has collected gunky oil and grease residue that you could have a grease fire hazard. The potential is there, right?

I don't worry with cleaning this area since no one can see it as other users have commented. I'm fine cleaning it 2-4 times a year with a rag and vinegar/baking soda/lemon juice cocktail.

We live around the corner from Nobu in San Diego... we haven't tried in in the almost 2 years we've lived here. I do believe it's time to try it!

@MRSBAUGHN I wouldn't use mayo either. I'm going to try avocado or just leave it out. YUM!

I love spicy tuna. Been wanting to make it at home! Wonder if I could sub avocado for the mayo. I'd rather have the avo fat that mayo fat/processed-ness.

Does seem that lately there are more and more "fluff" posts that seem to dilute the great home interiors content. Even the Birthday Party stuff seems like it should be on TheKitchn instead.

Thanks for all of these great suggestions everyone! I just purchased a bagged wine from Trader Joe's. Eco Vino Chardonnay. Seems like a great idea for summer picnics and things! http://www.mamamaryshow.com/2011/07/bag-wine-is-the-new-black-and-a-summer-must-have/

While I agree, this kitchen could use a little warmth... I would take this over mass chaos and mess everywhere. I cannot think clearly in the midst of junk everywhere. You can always add your touches of flowers, fruit, etc. We all have our own touches and what makes us comfortable. But, if I had to chose an extreme... I'd pick this one every single time.

That said, I love these tips and often do these to keep mess at bay. It's not always going to be perfect and perfection I am not after, but to maintain a balanced and well running life I have to try and stay on top of organizing / cleaning before it gets out of hand. And, trust me... the last few weeks my oven has been full of dirty dishes because I didn't have a moment to wash them. That would be my tip... Hide dishes in the oven if you have company stopping by last minute and don't have time to deep clean! :)

My friends joke on me for this, but it works... makes me feel good knowing they don't see my "dirty laundry" ha! Although, they wouldn't care if the kitchen was a mess. It really is more for my sanity than anyone else. :)

These are good ideas. I find the floor also gets very icky so quickly. Maybe a quick sweep each day before bed or first thing in the morning to add to the list.
