I (admittedly) missed the first article, and just read both today--very well written, and brave on your part as well. They definitely made me think about my relationship and how we divvy things up! It seems that every time we go through a transition (occasionally with snarky comments about money along the way), we re-negotiate all of this. The time when I was working 60 hours per week and writing a dissertation at the same time did not go so well...

Anyway, we've dropped the idea of money, splitting things up exactly evenly, being super gender-neutral, etc. He genuinely likes yard work; for him it's sort of zen, while I want to poke my eyes out. I love cooking, he can't make a pancake. Doesn't bother us that these are "traditional" chores for our gender. Balance is something we work on/struggle with all the time!

Favorite entry of the entire contest...I want to move in!

I totally disagree with the comments about the outside of the building. Everyone's apartment exists within the building's environment--personally, the windows and the park outside would have sold me as a renter/buyer regardless of what the bedroom looks like!

Why all the snarky comments? This is easily in my top three entries for the entire contest!

(and I only WISH those cabinets were available at a big box store)

We collect rocks and shells...I keep them in a simple, clear glass vase on the mantel, and a larger shell acts as a lid of sorts so it's the only one that gets dusty.

Um, thanks for a link to a great blog that is definitely more than "sort of interesting", but what an incredibly rude post!

Nice job gender stereotyping, btw. I'm not sure I want to be a part of the "us" to whom the original poster is referring....

Why is the size of the house such a big concern? 550 square feet per person isn't so large!

Besides, inspiration can be found anywhere....

Love the look, but I spent my childhood bloodying my shins on a relative's glass coffee table....no thanks!

Even the font for the comments is tiny! I would have adored this when I was little...and I still do.

Oh, Mole is one of my FAVORITE things, and Rick Bayless is the best. Now that I've moved north to Toronto, though...oh dear.

@Ansela-Both sides did quite appalling things to each other. Also, the current U.S. Census Bureau would most definitely disagree with you!

In the 19th c, the term was used by those who supported an anti-immigrant agenda (i.e., setting quotas on Irish/Catholic immigration). Now, it's a very specific legal term.

Gorgeous house!

I agree with aaakid...I would not be thrilled to have my bedroom in a tired trends post, even if in a semi-complimentary sort of way.

Hand-made textiles (and other things), currently popular or not, are classics with a story to tell. That never goes out of style!

My husband and I used to argue about whether to have one in the bedroom or not, until we realized the tv itself had nothing to do with it...it's when you watch the silly thing that matters.

So, our bedroom tv is for morning news while we get ready for work, as well as for the occasional movie. That's it!

Absolutely not--the mismatch in both size and color really ups the sense of clutter.

Nice choice with the table--certainly something I might be too timid to buy, but love it in your space! The pale chairs go with it splendidly, I think....
