Why exactly do "such choices often seem unrealistic for actual homes, where actual people need actual sleep?" Dark walls create coziness for a cocoon-like feeling and heavy drapes block out street/sun light. I'm not sure how colorful bedding (as long as it's comfy) or oversized artwork (assuming it's not hung over your head or depicting nightmare-inducing images) could interfere with falling asleep in a dark room either. My bedroom is done in coordinating shades of deep purple/violet: walls, accent wallpaper, floor length silk taffeta drapes and bedding; black furniture, upholstery in cream, some art, and it is a very inviting room - even my husband likes it (and he doesn't like purple). To each his own, I guess...

I was going to start by saying to paint the walls to get rid of that green then I kept reading... A source list for you:
Ikea, Home Depot, Build it Green! NYC, Amazon. Forget a tile backsplash (the tiles won't cost you, but the labor will), focus on the floor, sink/cabinet, fridge and light fixture. Good luck.

"Bryan Admas's"? extra s, really? eww.

I loved his space! I, too, was surprised to see him in Elle Decor, but his home is so beautifully arranged and decorated I couldn't help but swoon over it, especially the basement guest bedroom.

After more thought...
I do like a lot of the individual pieces of furniture, i.e. sofas, coffee table, but I don't like them in this space at all - not because I, personally, would decorate this space differently and more in line with the character of the space, but because the minimalism that they're striving for misses the mark (and the kitchen appliances are just bad). Granted, I think you need a LOT of money (and you need to own the place) to pull off the white minimalism with contemporary art on the walls juxtaposed look that I think would look fabulous in this space (think Architectural Digest budget).

Sorry, Mr. Dangerous, but the new comment policy will make the AT community you seek impossible to find. (Don't worry though, if I hate something, I'll say so.)
That said, I do think it makes complete sense to have size categories for the entries and that a space being "small" is truly subjective based upon use, occupancy, etc., but saying 1200sq. ft. is small is definitely pushing it.

I just don't know how I feel about their decor within the gorgeous original details of the brownstone. I can imagine it's difficult to furnish & decorate within those constraints, but I'm just not feeling it. I do think it's possible to have beautiful white minimalist, gallery-like decor in that great space.

the shelves are cute and, I agree, quite clever, but THIS is what you came back with from the AD show? There were some gorgeous designs: tiles, glass art, etc. Can we get some posts on the good stuff? I've been waiting all week.

no more than 36" above the table, no less than 27", depends on size of table, pendant and the view for people sitting across from each other. don't forget to see what it looks like from another area of the room once it's hung.

THIS HOUSE IS GORGEOUS! (and I don't like MCM) I love the organic influences - I think they make the MCM less conspicuous. One thing: these people are flush, that's not a criticism, I'm happy that they somehow managed to pull off spending a boatload of money and making it look livable and down to earth. Good job!

It would be cool to be a friend visiting, but I could NEVER live there. I think it says they're creative, fun and the complete opposite of anal, but also a bit wacky (in a good way) though it's making me uncomfortable to even imagine myself having to cook there. LOL

I'm with Tabitha & seaside, for fear of the conduct police, I will say, some of those tips (not the post, really) are disgusting! They just make me cringe thinking of the dirt hiding at this person's house. I don't have a clean house 365 days a year, but I think there are better 15/30 minute real cleaning tips like Chrisgal and LilyC mentioned that you can do to actually clean in the time it takes you to fake it.

that kitchen is awesome! great use of space and I'm a big fan of the floor to ceiling counter depth cabinets next to the fridge, it gives the fridge a built-in look without looking like the traditional suburban perfect built-in monster. what made you choose the summit vs. the fisher & paykel or similar models?

I had the same issue so I went with a very luxurious black & white them, tried decals years ago, but they fall off. Apparently, you can also professionally reglaze tiles any color you want too. Is your ceiling tiled too? You can always paint your ceiling a bright color.
