Seriously, you worked at Murray's and you are surprised that something with rind breakdown that was packed in a cryovac wasn't good? Come on.

Curtido - the Salvadoran cabbage relish. We keep it around even when we don't make pupusas, because it makes a great taco topping and is great on the side with all sorts of things.

Poltergeist. When it first came out on LaserDisc, which tells you exactly how old I am. And no, I wouldn't watch it again, or any horror movie, for that matter...the downside to having a very strong visual memory is that any horror scene I'm exposed to is in there for good.

Fledder, post-2008, things have not changed so much in the D.C. area. D.C. is largely insulated from the U.S.'s economic woes, because it's a company town for the government, and business in that realm is still very good. I grew up there and have a friend who is a real estate agent, and the prices for things she posts never fail to amaze me. And the 4-bedroom house my parents bought in 1980 for $100k and sold in 1997 for $250k is now worth $600k.

Jen, I asked my mother-in-law, who speaks Turkish, and she said the following::

I bet that what the woman ate in Istanbul resembles shirin polo with chicken. That's a Persian sweet rice pilav with orange, dried fruit, and nuts. But if she was in Istanbul and it was called Şerazad something, then I think that the writer and the woman who answered were both doing Internet searches for Sheherazade chicken, but the recipe as described would be for Sheherazade pilav.

"When I search for Turkish recipes for Sh. chicken, I mostly find references to restaurants in London & Australia for chicken with potatoes and beets. When I search for Sh. pilav, I find recipes which resemble shirin polo. Here's one from Lezzet, which is a Turkish cookery magazine."

Not at all. My mother's choices are mostly traditional rusts, reds, and soft blues with brown tones. I go for clear, saturated colors with green and yellow tones.

This isn't a budget suggestion, but if you want something with twisted-rope seats to invest in for the long haul, another option would be Niels Moller chairs.

My folks bought theirs in the 60s, and they're still kicking, having had the rope seats replaced once.

My husband and I have separate bedrooms. I wish we didn't have to. I would so much rather share a bed, but I have pretty severe myalgic encephalomyelitis and I need absolute dark quiet stillness and six different medications to get a good night's sleep. The upside of it is that I have a separate bedroom to decorate, and after a lifetime of primary and neutral bedrooms I feel no guilt about my room being green and pink.

We had a bit of bacterial speck early, but judicious trimming and once-a-week use of OxiDate seems to have kept it at bay thus far, knock wood. We haven't pulled in anything except a handful of Romas, but we're near Pittsburgh, our plants went in a little late, and it's been hot and dry, so I'm not surprised. They've put out some significant growth in the last week or so, and expect we'll start to harvest some fruit next week. Our squash plants are predictably going bananas, though...our neighbors are going to stop answering their doors soon.

You know, I've seen so many pastel 1980s abstract paintings and have never thought they'd be able to not look totally dated, but on that hot pink wall that one works very well. Quite an accomplishment.

- Wet rooms with no shower enclosure at all. Seriously, if you want to take a shower with your partner, someone's going to freeze, and you even might on your own.
- Tiny, stubby, Tyrannosaurus-rex-arm curtain rods that don't even begin to cover the windows. Curtains have a function, people: To curtain. Likewise using six or eight tieback knobs instead of a curtain rod. No matter what, it looks sloppy.
- Tearing out upper kitchen cabinets, which I see on here all the time, because it looks modern or something? To make this work, you need twice the kitchen square footage or half the equipment, and if you cook little enough that you can get by with half the equipment, why are you spending $$,$$$ to make your kitchen less functional?
- The inevitable description of something as having "pops" of color.
