I used to have warm, deep gray walls in my home office and LOVED it! It did make it a bit darker in the room, but the color was beautiful. The color seemed to compliment every other color I brought into that room. I recently painted the room pure white for something different, but man do I miss those gray walls....

I love to eat full size tomatoes whole (like an apple). I also like to snack on just sprouts (alfalfa, radish, bean). My weirdest food quirk is my affinity for peanut butter, red pepper and hummus sandwiches. I first made this sandwich while on a weeklong field trip far from home. The group I was with would all eat McDonalds for every meal and out of desperation I gathered any groceries I could readily eat. It stuck with me.

Craigslist is also great for finding parts for something you may not be able to find in a store anymore.

Having worked in a large Christmas store and doing a lot of tree trimming, I HIGHLY recommend using metal wire to attach ornaments. This is also great if you want to bundle ornaments on one branch. The vertical method of stringing lights is much easier (especially if you're stringing a large tree or a tree in a tight space). Also, plug your 3 strands of lights together and start from the top of tree. This way you don't end up with extra cord running all down the tree.

Changing the hardware can make a HUGE difference as well. We (temporarily) replaced the towel bars, toilet paper roll holder, knobs and handles. I'm also thinking about removing the ugly, cheap wall cabinet (and storing it safely) and putting up shelves instead.

Wow, that rug is gorgeous! Looks like the background might be wool, and the tag looks like it reads "Made in India".

My boyfriend loves Spicy Baked Salmon with Apples! Just put a few 4 oz. salmon fillets on their own 12" square pieces of foil, sprinkle with cumin and cinnamon, cover with thin slices of Granny Smith apples, salt and pepper to taste, seal up foil packets with some air space inside and bake at 400F for about 15 minutes.

You can also use 0000 super fine steel wool for the legs. For the vinyl, be carefull what you use and make sure to test an area like Hookdntx mentioned. Most things that will take off the paint will dull the surface of the vinyl in that one spot. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser usually works just fine for removing paint from vintage vinyl upholstery as long as the paint isn't thick.

I never thought I'd be a big fan of red, but a few years ago we bought a big modern red sectional, and we STILL love it!

I wait as long as possible. I've lived in Michigan my whole life, and I can take the cold. I usually hold out until the inside temp dips below 55 during the day. In the winter, we keep the heat at 60-62 during the day and 54 at night. We also use a heated mattress pad for those really cold nights and mornings. We're used to slippers and sweaters. I'd rather be too cold and have to put on another layer (or move around more) than be too hot.

homemade all the way! i can't stand store bought broth anymore. we always have end-of-their-life veggie in the fridge or scraps in the freezer and usually a chicken carcass as well. if i don't have the chicken (and don't feel like cooking one first) I pick up a roasted chicken from our local market. we eat or freeze the chicken meat and use the rest of it for broth. i usually make mine in the crock pot and season it differently for different soups or other recipes.

I've bought a few wool blankets (& coats) from thrift stores and rummage sales. Cold water and vinegar is what I usually clean them with - gentle cycle in the washer (especially if already felted) or by hand. For drying, I just give it a quick spin or just lay flat to dry.

@jenniferbnyc - the chairs are most likely vintage (mid century era), not sure about the table. If you like the style of the chairs you could try craigslist or eBay. That was a heavily copied design, so there are a lot of them out there.

Love A frames. They are interesting structures that require creative solutions to small and strangely shaped spaces. I think Julia has done a beautiful job.

You're more likely to find a very similar lamp without the exterior shade. You could then purchase the exterior shade to add to it. Best of luck!
