I love the Sweet Bella phones. Only problem is that you can't order directly from them. They only sell wholesale. I wish they would add a link from their site to their online retailers. I love everything on their site.

I have too much counter space. There is one counter I use. I have a toaster, coffee maker, knives, a tray and lazy susan with spices, etc. on that.

I also use the island to plate food and to bake, etc.. Most of the time, it's either bare or loaded with junk. I'd love to style this so it looks pretty. Any thoughts? I've tried large scale things - they don't work. I need help with this.

On the other counter, I keep the mixer (too heavy to move). A smaller counter has a stereo and the phone.

I know we're supposed to keep the counters clear of clutter. As a designer, I feel some decorative things can work if you have the space.

Advice please!

Well, I'm halfway done. But I moved a bunch of stuff around and I think the kitchen will work a lot better this way. I moved the pantry to The Closet of Terror, which used to house a nightmare of pots and pans and you name it.

I also reduced a drawers full of food storage containers into one drawer and put my cake pans in there.

I feel inspired to really start baking again.

Now for my special project. I really want to style my kitchen island. It measures 52" x 75". It's enormous. I have a 24" lazy susan in the middle. Does anyone have a clue? I'd like to create mish-mash of coking and baking things - like a cake plate, oils, etc... I never have any time for my own house. I have so shop and take whatever doesn't work back. I'm too busy doing everyone else's house. Can you help me out?

Here's a photo. I put all my before and after photos on the Flickr stream someone created for this. Here's the link to my island photo.

HELP! HELP! HELP!

My kitchen has lots of space, but we have lots of stuff. This photo shows what was in 2 closets. http://www.flickr.com/photos/43886990@N05/4040313128/in/pool-fallkitchencure
How do I sort this? Should the bakeware go in drawers? Serving dishes together? OR big things together and small things together. Should the bakeware go near the oven? I want my fairy godmother to finish this for more so I can take a nap. :-)

Here's another photo and then I'm going to go back and figure this out all by my grown-up self.

This means I have to tackle the Closet of Terror. It's this wide and narrow closet with a small door in the middle. Everything (most of the closet) that isn't right in front of the door is a stretch to reach. Lordy knows what's hiding in there. Yikes!

I'm going to need lots of help with my special project. Please?! I have this large island that needs decoration. It's always loaded with junk because it's our landing pad from the side door. I bought a dark wood lazy susan - clueless about what to put on it. I'll upload a photo to the Flickr site tomorrow. So, I'm calling all set decorators and tabletop experts to help me out.

I'm a professional interior designer, but I'm not good at dressing kitchens. I think I get confused between decoration and cooking. Therefore, I'm taking advantage of the extra help and making my special project decoration for my kitchen island. I'll upload photos. But I need help! It's so enormous and it's our landing pad. So it's always filled with junk.

Advice and links to suggested products are much appreciated.

Remember that scene from Sleeping with the Enemy where Julia Roberts lined up all the cans in her cabinets? I wish my kitchen looked like that. We were supposed to think everything being that orderly was mental. But it was my dream come true. Nice and tidy. I hope the cure gets me there. Then I can start messing it up in preparation for next year's Cure.

Now I'm going to take my starter photos. Gulp. No cheating? Double gulp.

Do you think you'd get tired of only black and white? What if Aunt Judy buys you a red doo-dad?

Anyway, I love the duvet cover, too.

Your "popcorn ceiling' is a cheap way of disguising a bad drywall job. They slap it up and spray over it.

You could try sanding it smooth and skim-coating over it. Try asking over at this handyman's blog. He's pretty good.

I would buy this thinking I'd use it. Then I never would. Ditto on the skimpy hanger part. A good 'ole lint roller works best.

Also, do you buy one for each coat?

That's an eye-opener. I thought a VISA gift card was the way to go. It's good 'ole checks from me from now on.

Of course, I really think everyone should try to think of something a person would like to have and go buy it. But teens like $$$$.

Hmmm... Interesting dilemma. You say you want to use the window treatment to add color, so you definitely want some sort of treatment. Also, that front door looks very commercial. Do you need to cover that for privacy?

Here are my suggestions.
1. Buy some custom roller shades. Smith & Noble sells these online, but you can find a local shop that can do it. You can choose a colorful fabric and roll them up or down as you please. You can even buy one for the door. This will create color, privacy, and they don't cost a fortune. If you want a crisp, clean look, this is the way to go.

2. Make one large drapery panel out of saris. Buy a rod (IKEA?) that will extend from the right-hand corner of the wall to the end of the windows on the left. Hang it over the window.

Find an Indian sari shop in your area. Saris come in a standard length that's long enough to cover your wall. But you'll need more than one to create the width you need. You want to buy enough so that, once you sew them together, they'll be twice the width of the rod. You can find beautiful, colorful saris for next to nothing ($30).

Now you have to make the curtains. You need to finish the top and bottom edges and sew the widths together. Check online for exact instructions. If you don't have a sewing machine, you probably know someone who does. If not, you can use iron-on tape for the hems and leave the panels separate.

Once your curtains are done, you can either gather them on the rod, through a pocket at the top, or use rings and clips to hang them.

During the day, leave the panels gathered against the right-hand wall. At night, close them to cover the windows and create a cozy feeling.

Finally, for the door, if you need privacy, ask your landlord is you can frost the glass. Hardware stores sell kits to do this. You just spray it on the glass. It's pretty simple.

That's it! Questions? Come see me over at Design Hole.

I agree about the ceiling fan. There are nicer ones out there. My husband lived in Dallas for a year or so. He knew it was time to leave when the speedometer needle in his car melted from the heat.

We need a floor plan!

Most carpets are some sort of rectangular shape. In fact, there are fairly standard sizes for most ready-made area rugs. So I don't know why you're picking on FLOR. I like the fact that you can make a rug (almost) any size you want.

I understand we see FLOR everywhere. But I think that's because they've cornered the residential market on carpet squares. Hah! (that pun wasn't intended). I'm sure Shaw and all the other commercial "carpet square" manufacturers are gnashing their teeth.

Why pay more? The IKEA version looks great. And for that price you can afford the swimming pool to go with it. Well, at least the deposit on one! :)

I love good re-use. But these? They've been done before and the drawer-stool, while a nice idea in concept, will never work in real life. Ho hum, just my humble opinion. :)

Bemz has a great concept. But you can have one made on your own for less $$$. Still, you can't beat the convenience of just ordering. And her fabrics are good.
