i agree with transitional being a challenging inspiration...also, RQingeorgia posted an article with an uncanny understanding of the socio-political context of dubai...and after reading it, i appreciate this transitional/temporary space and am certain that the dweller can find additional sources (i.e., the book tape used) to make it cozy for the time being. purchasing an artifact or two that speaks to the underclass would be a wonderful inspiration for this space and something to keep for all time. great extensive storage...i can easily imagine an organized life looking at the all the cupboards and shelving units...however, it is to that end where all the super-symmetry makes things a little matchy-matchy. ha, all those pull out shelves atop the toilet would save so much space, but not sure i would want to stash my toothbrush there....way innovating though, never saw anything like it in my life...and a stainless steel bathtub? would be so hard to keep clean and, besides, it looks totally uninviting. very much love the pink couch. some of the artwork was really cute...i think adding some color to all of that brown in the kitchen would help...as would a different colored retro fridge to break up the white appliances running into each other. the lamp on the vanity/desk was whimsical/adorable. love a lot of the artwork and the office nook was great (fan of shelving wherever you can stick it)...i'm a bit hatin' on the enormousness of it all, only bc i find the necessity of space-saving solutions to be my favorite thing (as it applies to me)--with that said--the only thing i didn't really like was the lined-up pics on the buffet./console (everything was pretty much squarish and at the same height). everything else in this home looks pretty, warm and inviting--especially the coffee table. i suspect some things will get changed around when the baby gets to be into everything, but with all that space, who cares:O and the thing that got my jealous goat was--those. awesome. plastic. storage. box thingies. for. that. awesome. collection. of. shoes. i think after seeing this, i will totally forego any cheapo paint options. thanks to all the posters for your know-how. this color definitely rocks. as claudia posted, those contrast colors sound as if they would be a great match. sort of agreeing with LzzyJane, only bc AT frequently posts huge spaces on huge budgets, sometimes coupled with comments about all of us presumptuously aspiring to a own a 'house'...then we see this and i have to wonder if ATs perspective equates poverty with romanticism... what a wonderful palette to work with. loving the STORAGE that your HUGE entryway wardrobe provides--making the hallway large enough to accommodate it was a wonderful design choice! i guess some AT readers here wanted to see more personality incorporated into the decor, but knowing that you did all of this work from the beginning is highly appreciable. i sure as heck wouldn't mind living there--first thing would be to fill up that bad boy of an entryway closet! where to start when everything is so...original...and downright awesome...love the molding, love the ceilings, love that very funky molding on the stairway, jealous of that dental cabinet find...and i would never have thought those colors and so much blue would work out but it's funky/quirky/i want to live there. well done. wishing you a replacement couch that's more cozy but fits your style and the room. oh, and i'll repeat the compliments on the green wallpaper and stained glass...it all screams we're awesome, we're cozy here. classy, funky, perfect. thanks to all who shared links and how to make ginormous photos. i've always dreamed of blowing up a personal black and white and incorporating it in my living space. making it black and white makes it more classic, but you'll still have a story to tell your guests. the mural looks as if it would have been tricky...love the vibe it gives the entire space. and alex, not only is your picture awesome, but a pic of ones self is placed in THE right place, as in your personal office. love it. wowsers to most of these, especially number 5--how in the heck did they pull of the cave-like seamless-ness of that tub and sink morphed as one? love it. but AT, please throw away your stock photo of number 2, it's the 2nd time i've seen it, and plywood and mixing bowls posing as a vanity are not awesome.
