It would be great to have less product posting on AT and affiliated sites, I agree! As someone that is trying to severely limit my consumption of new items it is overwhelming (and a bit boring) to see so many new "green" product posts. It doesn't feel relevant to my life.

We actually have a beehive! We're using a "top bar" hive and so far our bees are thriving, the queen is laying eggs and honey is being stored!

We're part of the "urban beekeeping" movement!

A friend told me that the Shaklee bottles do not have ingredients listed, anyone know if that's true for all the products? I wouldn't like not knowing what is in there.....

Jill, I know we don't know each other at all but I just have to say: You are completely insane! And brilliant at the same time. What an amazing and unique event to have as part of your wedding experience, you will really treasure the memories of preparing all of this food for your loved ones.

I would definitely try the "no dig" method of gardening, either with lasagna layers or building a raised bed and filling it with a combination of soil and compost. Here's an article from L A Times: http://www.latimes.com/features/home/la-hm-nodig12-2008jun12,0,55177.story

Or check out the book "Lasagna Gardening"

Completely useless, just like most of the One Step Ahead catalog. Ranks right up there with the baby helmet that you wear inside the house while learning to crawl and walk. EYEROLL.

We have local (and organic!) strawberries in Nashville, TN now, they started popping up about three weeks ago. And we also got some in our first CSA share!

My husband keeps his bike in the office. He does ride his bike to and from work at least three days a week so it's not always in the way, but most of the time? It's in the way.

I typically don't eat anything when I drink tea, but do think scones are a good partner (my friend makes a lemon/cranberry scone to die for).

You can combat the legginess by putting the pots way down under the soil, just let a bit of the stem and the leaves stick out of the top.

And your answer to my question last week about starting the seeds in pots makes total sense, I live in the Southern U.S. and always forget that other regions are further behind us on the planting schedule.

Good luck!

we were lucky enough to have a tree fall in our backyard and made those blocks ourselves!

all you need is a fallen tree, a saw and some sandpaper for smoothing out any really sharp edges.

I'm wondering why you are starting beets in peat pellets? They are definitely best directly sowed.

If it's weather related beets do well in cooler weather.

Same for lettuce seeds, I haven't ever started them indoors or in pots/pellets.
