This is a brilliant idea, especially using a hanging pocket organizer. We've got barely more than a galley in our apartment and have a lot of utensils - this might be perfect!

Oh, another thought too - we use an old clear plastic shoe organizer on the inside of the hall closet to store household cleaners. Holds a Method bottle just about perfectly. :)

My husband has the same problem with CFLs, so we decided to try the new LED bulbs that are coming into the market. The ones we purchased were a little dimmer than we're accustomed to, but I'm sure we can find ones that are a little brighter for other areas of the house. So far, they work like a charm - we love the warm look they give and they helped drop our power bill by $20 the first month we used them. We're slowly replacing all of our incandescents with LEDs.

We found our first set at Sam's, of all places, but they're available on Amazon too, as well as in limited supply at some hardware stores.

We bought this stuff for a massive roach problem, thinking it would be a good eco-option. My husband is disgusted, not only because it's not nearly as safe as we thought (I should have read it closer before buying it - vacate the room for 30 minutes?!), but it DOESN'T WORK. We went through half a bottle in the first day or two because it took half a dozen sprays to even slow the daggone roaches down, much less kill them. Forget it!

My husband and I actually just got through a small infestation on our two indoor cats (we inadvertently brought them home from another infested house). Store-bought chemicals did nothing but smell bad and make the cats' fur greasy. Yuck! Plus the fleas hadn't gone away at all.

Apple cider vinegar, however, seems to have done the trick! I put just a little in their water (1 tsp or less for 3 liters in a bubbler) and then rubbed them down with paper towels dampened with undiluted cider vinegar. A little residual dirt came off the last few times, and I'll sweep them both again, but there are no fleas in sight so far.

The cats don't mind the vinegar in their water, but they do NOT like the smell when you rub them down. Wipe them down like you're petting them, with a wide hand covered by the vinegar towel, and get as much of them as possible, including bellies and tails. Our longhair tends to groom immediately after being rubbed down and has shown no ill effects - in fact, it made his fur incredibly soft!

Happy New Year, all!
