I'm not sure about trend...the only potty training parties I've seen prior to this were those sponsored by Pull-Ups and the like as marketing parties. I usually go with the "any excuse for a party" theory of party planning, but this seems to be pushing it. Perhaps a small party, en famille, but that's it.

I grew up in Hessia and Baden-Württemberg, two separate German states, and never had I heard of this until a friend in Arizona gifted me with a pickle ornament two years ago. I strongly suspect that it's something that came into being on this side of the Atlantic. The main difference that I recall is that we didn't even get a tree until Christmas Eve, and it was decorated in a hush while I was whisked of elsewhere .. and yes, there were real candles. (Still are!)

Beyond awesome. I want one! And at least there's no chance for this one to get irretrievably messed up. (I never have managed to solve one.)

My husband was born in Moscow. Russia does a similar baby box, and both he and his sister spent their first year or so sleeping in their baby box.

The clothes are cute, and some are funny to this Arizona mom. (Snow suits!) But the funniest part of the contents? Six condoms. Congratulations on having your baby - now here's how you can keep from having another one right away. ;)

I, too, had invented this product in my head, and fell in love with it after this review. The sticker shock got me, though - and then I ordered the SilliSqueeze (www.sillisqueeze.com) someone else mentioned above. We got ours a few days ago, and already I've been able to have my younger son (1) FEED HIMSELF yogurt without making a giant mess. He has never allowed anyone to feed him by spoon, and when he feeds himself ... well, Jackson Pollock would be proud. We even took it for a test run to Trader Joe's today and laughed at the disposable fruit squeezies in the checkout aisle. This is a hit. I only wish it came in colors other than red, but at two for the price of one Babypote, I'm sold. Both of my boys, (1 and 3) rocked theirs while shopping during lunch hour, and it was fantastic.

We do this, too... and told you about it in the comments on your previous "how to make cake pops" post. :-P

A friend made these with donut holes recently. Faster, less frosting, and equally delicious.

I was super impressed until I realized that our 2 5x5s have more storage space. ;) We got two 5x5 boxes (so actually four boxes I think) home in a Prius with no problems, so look into the dimensions of your car again. Granted, we didn't have kids at the time, but I've been amazed at what we could take home from IKEA in what is a smallish car.

Yes, they are Lego gummies! We were able to borrow an official Lego silicone mold (for ice cubes and gelatin and other things) from a friend. I followed the recipe provided by this instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/LeGummies-brick-shaped-gummy-candies/ I would have loved to make a Duplo mold, but the cost and effort were more than a bit much. ;)

For the record, I, too, am turning 31, and since I missed my shot at a big 30th birthday shindig (having JUST had a baby), I am making up for it this year. I didn't know what a champagne popper was until I read this post, and then happened to see a bag of them at the store the following day. Despite the fact that the instructions are slightly more detailed than they needed to be, I appreciated this post. Also, I don't think they need to be spray painted. I think adding the colored wrappers helps to make something more multi-dimensional than a perfectly coordinated "everything is a few colors" party.

I wonder if my Poang cushion would fit on that. They seem to be sold out of the medium brown, but I'll check back later. It would be awesome if I could get it to go with the Poang foot stool.
