ok to summarize:

lots of water, lots of salt added after the water has started boiling (that point was stressed to me by italians on numerous occasions) and absolutely no oil since it'll prevent the sauce from sticking to the pasta properly (allegedly it's called "closing the pores" although i don't know whether pasta has actual pores), and pasta is always more pleasant when it can carry more sauce rather than less. finally, drain the water just before the pasta is done, it'll keep cooking for a bit just sitting there. this is how i've learned to cook my pasta, and it has worked out quite well really.

i love that bathroom. it looks beautiful, recognizable and at the same time not like it's trying too hard.

i have them in my hallway and i use 4 of them to hold my hats/my bag/my scarf (i really only always use one) and for that they are great. they come with all hooks/screws/hardware so you probably couldn't save that much if you were to do it myself ( i paid €13 per piece). i imagine they wouldn't ruin shoes - but wouldn't the shoes ruin the wall? you can vary the strength they pull things towards the wall by placing them further apart or closer together (according to the instructions they go between 80 and 90 cm in width)

i combined them with something else thats overpriced for being that simple: http://www.scandinaviandesigncenter.com/Products/eur1/Furniture/Storage/4136/Mail holder

but they look great together!

i love lots of things from Kartell - but those are not my favorite really. I couldn't make them work for me and I don't see how someone else would really. they do look cool.

hey everyone, this is Andreas

thanks for all the comments.

I wasn't sure whether the good people at AT would post the photos at all - the style is rather different from all the other places. there's barely an actual piece of furniture in my place (not by accident though).

yes, most of the comments that try to describe me are correct: Design Student, just out of college on the first job, bachelor. Funnily enough, while i was actually IN college, my furniture was more high up. Some of the other points were already addressed by other people (i.e. the square footage, minimal/minimalism)

I don't have guests over much, and I remember from my apartment that i lived in in college is that my dining area was almost never used - and I just decided there was no room for such incidental functions. likewise with guests: i do not usually have more than one person over, so I didn't make room for more than one guest.

@ Jenna, Orchid 64: I was in fact inspired by Japanese interior design. a lot of the odds and ends are from Muji, and one thing I'm still considering to get is Tatamis for the bed area

@JPK, Monca G: The headboard is something i came up with by myself - it's actually extremely simple to build. the frosted glass is attached to the wood frame with velcro strips.

Concerning the shelves: they're from muuto

you don't actually have to be very tall, i have seen the disassembling process in a store once - the top half actually comes off as one piece (which isn't as heavy as it looks) and then you can easily take apart the two pieces.

in a way, thats the wrong question. those chairs aren't made to go with a couch in a classical couch/chair/coffeetable situation. what you need to do is look at what you want to do in those chairs and where they're going to go and create an environment for them that works - and that's most likely not with a couch, not in the usual way.

if it's not too bold for you, if i were you i would go for navy too, but with gold or bronze accents - either get a bit of gold paint or bronze accessories, possibly middle-eastern style. i can imagine any yellow-ish metal really getting through all the blue in your room. you'd need just small doses, like hooks in the wall, a little frame or mirror or things like that to really make a difference.

i don't know how uncommon it is, but when i lived in new york (financial district) we couldn't get verizon for whatever reason and so we went with covad ( http://www.covad.com ) which had practically no downtime and no issues. i could absolutely recommend it with a clear conscience...

there actually aren't any huelsta now dealers in the us, you could try and get this piece through the parent company though. you may want to give the huelsta showroom on lexington a call: http://www.huelsta-rolfbenz.com/

finally something i can help with. i knew that style looked familiar: it's a sub-brand of hülsta, a quite expensive classic german furniture maker, called 'hülsta now'. the sideboard you see costs about 800 Euro, about $1200. have a look:

these are indeed ugly, but i am loving their togo line. maybe it's just the 60s scifi-furniture fan in me. i've test-sat those and i'm loving them: http://www.lignerosetdallas.com/images/togoatmosphere2.jpg

i recently regorganized my books by color as well, and while ist hasnt yielded results quite as pretty as seen here, it does look quite organized to me. I don't usually have a problem finding books by their color - and since i didn't sort my books at all before i did this, it was definitely an improvement.

i voted for the ghost chair too: a salesman in a kartell store once demonstrated the durability of the ghost chair to me: you can bend the legs or any other part over 90 degrees and they just snap right back and show no marks whatsoever! he did some more tricks with them which convinced me that those are truly meant to last a long time...

i have a question myself and i dont know where else to ask: i dont even remember the right words to google it. it's about a device you put in front of your tv screen. it basically rasterizes your tv image into a screen of about 12 by 12 colors through frosted glass cubes you put in front of it. in a way, it turns a regular tv programme into a lightshow. i remember seeing it online but i cant remember where. does anybody know what i am talking about?
