Would love to see a close-up of that large painting over the sofa. It look so deep and dark!

I love the black kitchen.

I like dark, minimal yet classic, and medium sized kitchens. Need a large island for preparation and the room needs to be cozy, but easy to clean.

My current kitchen is what I like to call the "artisan bread and olive oil" kind of dark. It's more reminiscent of Rembrandt and Vermeer paintings than the Hall of Mysteries. Though I wish I had that lacquer kitchen.

I'm not picky. I've lived in a studio apartment for the past two years and decided to keep the bed nook open and airy even when guests came over. No need for an extra curtain! But for some reason my guests found this uncomfortable and always mentioned how they couldn't wait to come over when I moved to a bigger place because "It's just so weird to see your bedroom". I never have figured out why some white bedding, an iron table, and an alarm clock are so weird, but so be it. I still leave the bedroom door open in my new one-bedroom.

Of course, if I had a large house or kids this might be a very different story.

It seems to me that these photos were taken in the wrong light. The light is too stark giving these environments a stark quality.

Black on black is more easily adaptable when it is lush and textured, just like all-white rooms. Glosses, mattes, weaves, lacquers, beads, carvings, velvets, tweeds, wood grains, and tactile curiosities of all sorts are needed to lend richness to the rooms.

"Though there's something totally 50s about the 80s..."

Maybe it was Reagan.

I'm really feeling the whites and light greens. Pretty ambient. I think it's a nice touch for nighttime, especially on antiquated looking furniture like the first chair.

As soon as I saw the first photo, before reading the print, I exclaimed "Dream house!". Classic style meets minimalist modern, it's great.

Hm, saw someone mention "yellreen". I like Yelloreen and Yelloray. Yellerey, even?

Grellow. Really?

Smear cream cheese on the toast, smush an avocado on top, and add a tomato slice and shredded basil leaves as a topper. Doesn't get better than that.

Now I'm excited to try it with honey though!

I also failed to mention bold black and white (or ivory).

Cheery Wall Colors to Suit Roommate's Burgundy Sofa?

Slip cover it. It's a nice boxy shape and shouldn't prove to be too difficult.

If you're not into slip covers, sage or celery would also brighten up the room. Maybe a green like the color of The Kitchn logo. Some bold pillows and drapes that incorporate both colors in small amounts would tie it all together nicely.

I think my Razr had a hump to get over at two years. The battery started wearing out and the new battery would run down fast, no matter how long I charged it. For some reason the SIM card would go out or the phone just wouldn't accept calls (which was fixed by jiggling the SIM card). But after that whole "your phone's two years old and you can get a newer, shinier one from ATT for free" phase was over, it began working perfectly again. Not to mention those sturdy metal parts are aging mighty well.

Toilet paper and air conditioning. If I had more than one window in my 300 sq. ft. apartment, I could probably cut down on it and get a breeze flowing, but from June-August in Texas I gotta have a little air. I do at least try to keep it pushed up to 85F and use a ceiling fan, but a 100 degree house with no air flow just doesn't work for me.

Another question to consider: How does one keep little pests like ants and roaches out of the indoor compost bin? I feel that, in my student studio apartment anyway, that this would be a big concern.

Hey, it's my old friend "Smoke Blue". I was chuckling at this and guessing that I would get grey-blue before I clicked into the website. As a matter of fact it happens to be the color of two walls in my studio apartment and I love it!
