I am SO all the way with Chickenfries. Feline pine (the pellet form) is the best!I swear by that stuff. Kitties can pee all day long like it's going out of style, and there's nothing whatsoever to clean up or smell. The stuff also never makes a mess unless you have a kitten who insists upon getting SOMETHING outside of the box. When my boyfriend saw how much cleaner and easier it was to deal with kitty offal we went ahead and switched all our litter boxes to it :)

Also? Feline Pine is made out of repurposed pine sawdust, which is ever present, and way more renewable than clay, and no strip mining! Yay!

New art, paint the dresser, new bed spread. Maybe try black and white, maybe try a light turquoise for the color scheme. I think you could actually keep the window treatments - they're a great red and have nice lines. But most importantly, update what you have on the walls, the paint on the dresser, and the bedspread.

I think the second kitchen would make a glorious living room or bedroom or any room but a kitchen. And, personally, I think the Virgin Mary on the stove is wonderful. She's blessing the food!

I'm a big fan of the openness of a clear plastic shower curtain - cheap and makes a small rental bathroom seem a bit bigger and brighter! But if I were to use an actual real life shower curtain that cost more that $5, I would totally go in the direction of one of these. They're so fun and cool :)

John H. knows what he's talking about. This place hurts my eyes. There's white, and then there's WHITE. That said, I can appreciate the impulse, and I can appreciate that this is a work in the first stages of it's progress; if this is the beginning stage, then you're further along than I would be in the middle, so kudos. I would think in terms of softening from here on out.

For some reason, I've always had in my mind, a black and white checkered floor in my ideal kitchen. I don't know why, it just seems so classic and fresh. I'm about to (fingers crossed) buy a house with my s.o., and I loathe the kitchen, so I'm hoping to get my black and white checkered floor at some point. I think that would make me feel better about the rest of that room as a whole.

Do you guys know where I can get something like the third one? It's so beautiful but I don't trust myself to make something like that. Way too ornate for my talents.

Jamie - I'm sure you remember Cinema Paradiso? That film has always, in my mind, trumped actual fact lol. So thank you for reminding me (although I have witnessed first hand the effects of super 8 film getting stuck in the projector and melting, it certainly didn't ruin more than 2 or 3 frames).
As for your aversion to "borrowing" ideas, may I respectfully suggest the flawed but still thought provoking film "Rip: A Remix Manifesto"? I like to think of art as belonging to no one and every one, as, after all, your creations wouldn't exist without the creations of others; your materials are the films that others have made, you have the UK to thank for your pattern inspiration, and that's not even counting the technological innovations - the creation of artificial light and, um, film - that allowed you to be the inspired person you are today. Also, this is a very DIY-prone community. We like DIYable stuff because many of us gain inspiration from both the images we find here, and the process of making things for ourselves. Some of us are also broke, so we can't afford $500 lamps made of "found" (ie, free or low cost) materials.

Film is very flammable. I wonder how he assures that it doesn't melt/catch fire, what with the prolonged exposure (ha!) to lightbulbs. Otherwise, I want one. Or maybe I'll make one myself, although color film is expensive as all get out nowadays. I wonder how many feet of film he uses? I vote for a DIY post on these lamps!

I've never had anybody throw my things away, and I've never thrown anybody else's stuff away. Any time there's been a question about whether or not somebody's "unused" stuff is really necessary anymore, the protocol is "Hey, do you still really need this sort of overworn scarf/empty photo album/ wad of receipts?" Throwing somebody else's stuff away, no matter how insignificant or junky you think it is, is just disrespectful. Unless they're a hoarder. Then you need a shrink. And they'll help get rid of all that stuff.
