Paint the fire-place. it is orange toned oak and that wood color is not coming back for a loooooooooooong time. If you really want to keep the wood look strip it down and stain it ebony to modernize it. But that fireplace as it is will always look dated. And I like your red couch

Also, perhaps look for an L shaped couch so that your couch can face both the fireplace and the t.v. It will look better if the couch faces the tv

I like the idea of buying a dark dresser or something similar to put it on. It needs to be higher and look like it was intentional. Right now it looks like you put it there as an afterthought. Place it on a darker piece to help the black of the tv blend in with the room. I have seen some neat diy projects on here which use an old china cabinet for a new tv. home (if your tv 40 inches or less)

When I did a pinata I saved some extra candy and dropped it into the bags of kids who grabbed less candy. I think that grabbing for the candy is half the fun

Love the wall color! Did a similar color for my daughter's room with hot pink accents.

I am learning how to DIY to decorate my house. Instead of buying a new dresser for my daughter I bought an old one of Kijiji (our version of craigslist) that was well built and ugly. But a coat of white paint it looks great and will hopefully last for years!

I have dark brown tile and white tile in my house. The dark tile hides quite a bit, the white tile, nothing. Always looks dirty, even five minutes after mopping it.

EAM is right, it is too small for your space. A square coffee table would look better. The table is lovely. What about placing it at the foot of your bed?

I start with christmas decorations and camping supplies. They are pretty much packed anyways and it feels nice to have a big pile of "packed things" to add to. Then I go on to the rarely used kitchen tools and decorations, off season coats etc.

I am going to advise against any grey tones. We have wood trim and a lot of wood in our house, and the muted grey tones that look so fabulous in modern homes look dirty and washed out next to wood.

I love love love white, but if you want color I would advise earthtones or yellows.

Although I think if you paint the walls white the wood would really stand out and you can add some cool colorful art and accessories

I have to say I absolutely love white cabinets. But I think that adding some crown molding to the top of your cabinets would make them look a lot more expensive. You could build your cabinets up to the ceiling then add crown molding for a high end look.

I am going to say avoid the grey tones. I have a house with wood trim which was painted with grey tones when we moved in. Against the wood it looked dirty and washed out. I would suggest a bright white or earth tones.

To get rid of weeds in interlocking stone or cracks in pavement: pour on the salt! (Don't do this on the lawn or in your garden or you will have a brown spot)

add food coloring

in another bowl mix 1/4 cup hot water with one teaspoon borax. Then mix it all together, and voila! Play-slime ooey gooey fun. Dare you to find a kid who does not love this!

I like the vanity. I think it would look beautiful in a spa inspired bathroom. Just replace the counter top with something more modern. If you have room, two raised bowl sinks would look really sharp
