I often buy tablecloths at Target and use cafe clips or fold over one end for a rod pocket. You can sew it or use hem tape. Tablecloths are sturdy and come in some very pretty patterns. 5 Sources for Affordable Patterned Curtains |

I like comfortable. Minimalist homes too often remind me of hotel rooms. Minimalist can often be the uninspired decorators cop-out. Messy and unkempt are not acceptable, but for Pete's sake show some personality!! Minimal vs. Cozy: Which is More \"You\"? |

We need mood lighting on our back deck. The spotlight we currently use blinds people looking toward the door. Will try stapling white Christmas lights under the deep eave of the roof hangover, running them back and forth several times. There is a low section where we built on that will be reachable. Am hoping it will be a fun, easy fix for our lighting issue. Go Ahead and Make a Mistake: Approaching Design without Fear |

I listen to NPR on their 24 hour stream at work. My favorite show is The Diane Rheam Show. She is the best interviewer hands down. I also like the show on Wednesday with the Political Junkie. Cannot remember what show he guests on. The Best Podcasts for a Slow Day at Work |

i have had open shelves in my small, non-vented kitchen for over 15 years. I have not had any issues with the dreaded "greasy film" on my dishes, etc. However, I do have 16 foot ceilings in my great room, so that might help with the film. I have very few appliances. A toaster, egg cooker, rice cooker, hand mixer, and mini chopper. Thinking about buying an immersion blender. I do have a microwave which I use rarely. My lower cabinet to the right of my stove was custom built by my husband with cubbies for cutting boards, baking sheets, pie plates, cake pans, muffin tins and bundt pans. Very very efficient use of the space available. Downsizing Design: Tips for Moving to a Smart Stylish Smaller Kitchen |

Electric egg cooker. I have very few appliances and this is one I would never give up. We have a friend with chickens, so get fresh eggs. Fresh eggs are difficult for me to peel, but when steamed in the cooker they peel so easily. Makes tuna salad, deviled eggs, etc so much more enjoyable to make. We use ice cube trays and it seems as though there is always one that leaks and causes the ice cubes in the bin to freeze together. Since putting an ice pick in the freezer I am much less frustrated!! By the way, had to buy my ice pick at a flea market. I have used tablecloths to "make" curtains. Am using a Dwell Studio tablecloth from Target as a curtain in my bathroom. To make them the right length I just folded over one end and put the ring clips on and hung it. Quick and easy and the prints are wonderful. Less work than the double faced tape!! Carrie8, how cute!! Maybe he will grow up to be in law enforcement or a reporter/writer. Just back to work today after two snow days in a row! I read a book, watched "Storm of the Century" (while it was snowing) and made fudge. Friends came over yesterday and we visited and snacked (on fudge) thru the afternoon. I love snow days!!! Life at Home: Ways To Enjoy a Grown-Up "Snow Day" Anytime |

Please go ahead and buy a regular size bar of soap. You can purchase them cheaply enough at a drug store, or get a fancy one at TJ Maxx. I truly do not know any adult who enjoys using those slivers of soap. Stock Up: Supplies for Making House Guests Feel at Home |

As a child growing up we traveled hours on Christmas Eve and celebrated with grandparents. As an adult my husband's mother expected us at her house no later than noon on Christmas day. She lived very close, however, I resented having to rush around to get everyone ready. Now I have a grandson and we will be going to his house to see him Christmas day. Because I hated to always be gone on Christmas I want him to have the time to really enjoy his toys, stay in pj's and eat when he wants. What Are Your Home Holiday Traditions? Reader Survey |

I prefer cold meatloaf sandwiches. Mayo only, never miracle whip. Bananas and oreos are the best combo ever. I also like chocolate graham crackers with peanut butter on them, eaten with a banana. Black pepper on cottage cheese. Salt on grapefruit. Eat saltines with chili by dipping them, maybe putting a bite of the chili on the cracker--never actually put a saltine in the bowl of chili. My mother passed away when my children were 4 and 6. Thanksgiving pot luck moved to an aunt's house. As a way of having a reason to leave early (traditionally the meals went on for hours) we would take the girls to the movies. Now it is a family tradition we all love!! This year my oldest daughter will be going to her in-laws for Thanksgiving dinner, so we will have lunch and go to the movies without her!! I find the older I get the more adaptable I need to be for holidays. A Few Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Celebration Ideas |

After reading many posts on AT I should be immune from the snarky, bratty comments that abound from the readers. Being a mother of adult children I would be mortified if my daughters acted, or even felt this way regarding hostess gifts. People, for the most part, do the best they can. Why would you invite someone over and then pick apart something they brought you?? Is this a bad habit, or a character flaw? Either way it needs corrected. 5 Things You Should Never Bring as a Hostess Gift |
