Love the choice of dog!! Bostons are my favorite, so I had to love this apt. The pale pink works. Love the green in the kitchen too. Diana's Exposed Brick Bonus Small Cool Contest |

I have used tablecloths to "make" curtains. Am using a Dwell Studio tablecloth from Target as a curtain in my bathroom. To make them the right length I just folded over one end and put the ring clips on and hung it. Quick and easy and the prints are wonderful. Less work than the double faced tape!! Carrie8, how cute!! Maybe he will grow up to be in law enforcement or a reporter/writer. I live in an isolated location, so my snooping is carried out by people watching when eating out, shopping, etc. Who isn't interested in what is going on around them?? Boring people, that's who!! Just back to work today after two snow days in a row! I read a book, watched "Storm of the Century" (while it was snowing) and made fudge. Friends came over yesterday and we visited and snacked (on fudge) thru the afternoon. I love snow days!!! Life at Home: Ways To Enjoy a Grown-Up "Snow Day" Anytime |

Please go ahead and buy a regular size bar of soap. You can purchase them cheaply enough at a drug store, or get a fancy one at TJ Maxx. I truly do not know any adult who enjoys using those slivers of soap. Stock Up: Supplies for Making House Guests Feel at Home |

As a child growing up we traveled hours on Christmas Eve and celebrated with grandparents. As an adult my husband's mother expected us at her house no later than noon on Christmas day. She lived very close, however, I resented having to rush around to get everyone ready. Now I have a grandson and we will be going to his house to see him Christmas day. Because I hated to always be gone on Christmas I want him to have the time to really enjoy his toys, stay in pj's and eat when he wants. What Are Your Home Holiday Traditions? Reader Survey |

I often buy the boxed sets of liquors that come out this time of year for gifts. They are a good value and someone just starting out enjoys the shakers, glasses, etc that are in the set. Gift Guide for the Cocktail Lover in Your Life |

I prefer cold meatloaf sandwiches. Mayo only, never miracle whip. Bananas and oreos are the best combo ever. I also like chocolate graham crackers with peanut butter on them, eaten with a banana. Black pepper on cottage cheese. Salt on grapefruit. Eat saltines with chili by dipping them, maybe putting a bite of the chili on the cracker--never actually put a saltine in the bowl of chili. My mother passed away when my children were 4 and 6. Thanksgiving pot luck moved to an aunt's house. As a way of having a reason to leave early (traditionally the meals went on for hours) we would take the girls to the movies. Now it is a family tradition we all love!! This year my oldest daughter will be going to her in-laws for Thanksgiving dinner, so we will have lunch and go to the movies without her!! I find the older I get the more adaptable I need to be for holidays. A Few Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Celebration Ideas |

After reading many posts on AT I should be immune from the snarky, bratty comments that abound from the readers. Being a mother of adult children I would be mortified if my daughters acted, or even felt this way regarding hostess gifts. People, for the most part, do the best they can. Why would you invite someone over and then pick apart something they brought you?? Is this a bad habit, or a character flaw? Either way it needs corrected. 5 Things You Should Never Bring as a Hostess Gift |

I like canvas tote bags. I tend to buy them throughout the year if I see a neat one. Also buy them at Hobby Lobby when half price and will decorate them with yoyo's or have painted them in an animal print. I think they are useful and generic. I allowed two weeks notice for the wedding shower I gave yesterday. I mailed invitations and asked for a response. According to the responses 10 people were coming. In reality 20 people showed up. So. . . a couple young people got to sit on the floor. It was alot of fun, but I would have preferred an RSVP from those attending!! All the food was eaten, drinks almost gone. If it had been a formal event I would have been ticked off! It has been my experience people won't formally commit to anything. Annoying How Early Should You Send Out Invitations? |

I attended a wedding recently. The couple had registered at myregistry.com and asked for 13 things. The #1 item asked for was money for a honeymoon. Even though they are young and not established at all. Not only that--the groom sent an email to all respondents of the email RSVP stating if you did not feel comfortable using paypal you were welcome to make a "donation" when arriving for the ceremony. I have been married almost 30 years, so am I just old-fashioned?? Or is this over-the-top tacky? Making a House a Home Through a Wedding Registry |

I love this look! For a housewarming gift I once gave a small lamp made from a silver etched box. It had a black cloth shade and was so cute. My friend put it in the corner of her counter (away from the stove) placed on an old silver tray with oil and vinegar bottles, etc. She leaves it on all the time. Why go over this again? I have a deer head mount, several sets of antlers, two bobcats and one coyote rug on my walls. I am sure there are people in America who are highly offended by this. The people I know and love to have as guests are not. Interiors should reflect the people who live there. Period. Reader Survey: Does Taxidermy Enhance a Space? |

OMG! This is a house someone lives in. NOT a design showcase. I smiled when I saw the dishwasher open (mine seems always to be) and the trash can pulled out a little bit. I made a hot pad with some of mine. I did not cut them in half so it is taller than most. I used an aluminum band with a screw to keep it together. Got it at the auto parts store. I did not glue them either. They have stayed put. Easy DIY Cork Coasters Lizzie Joe Designs |

I have bamboo match stick blinds and cannot look into the house thru them. Of course, I have not walked up and stuck my face to the window. I know from the sidewalk you cannot see thru them.
