Sugarbakers, i didn't notice that at first but when I went to go back and look it actually made me laugh out loud! I must be getting tired.

"Hey Neighbor! Wanna walk my trash to the curb with me?"

This sounds like co-dependent neighboring.

I agree with patrick (the other one), ease up people! Really, it's just paint! My husband flips about painting wood too but (as long as it's not spray paint) a can of stripper, a hand sander and a little patience and you can have that wood back whenever you please.

I'm not quite sure why everyone is being so negative?!

I think that the after looks better in the space they are pictured. What I mean is, the wood before was just not working with the flooring. The floor color made the pieces looked old, damaged and out-dated.

I agree that I'm really over the whole 'paint everything white' trend but these don't really look white. On my screen they look gray and I'm quite in love with gray mixed with touches of bolder colors.

I'm rambling and the real point I'm trying to make is if you love it then it is absolutely perfect! It is your home, you have to live in it everyday so don't decorate to please others. I hate homes that look like they came out of magazines. A home should reflect the people that live there and feel alive with their personality, not the latest trends!!

Not a house for kids. All I can imagine is endless fingerprints and the rest of my life spent windex-ing (which, I hate doing in a regular house)

I shop Home Depot because we have one in town. If I just need to pick up a few small thing it's convenient. If I have major home improvement/DIY shopping to do I drive the 45 minutes to Lowes. They have better selection, more helpful staff and lower prices.

I've been dealing with a similar (but no where near as bad) problem with my MIL. No, I don't get themed crap but she is always buying me home decor or clothing items. Well intentioned as she may be, it's a real hit or miss game with what I do and don't like.

Above all you need to remember IT IS YOUR HOME! If you don't like it you shouldn't have to live with it. This isn't like eating a horrible meal to spare someones feelings about their cooking or giving fake compliments to someones beloved (but heinous) new purchase. A gift should be given with the recipient's likes in mind.

In my opinion you have three choices:
1) Display what you can tolerate for a short time then, after the in-laws see it a few times, donate/garage sale it.
2) Donate/garage sale it right away and if asked tell them the truth (It just not really our taste/I was worried about the kids breaking it)
3) Donate/garage sale it right away and if asked tell them it's in storage, you were afraid it would get broken with the kids so you packed it away to keep it safe.

I have been obsessing over this home since I first saw it. It is, without doubt, my favourite house tour!

I love the balance between feeling like home and feeling like a place with so much to discover. It has a wonderful vintage 70's vibe without out seeming outdated. Everything looks as though it just sort of grew into existence over time, nothing was intentional yet it all beautifully fell into place.

I would really love to see where these ladies are living now (hint, hint: maybe another house tour soon?)
